After relaunching the Baleno brand name in 2015 in a hatchback version, Maruti Suzuki has sold over 6.5 Lakh units of it till date.

Maruti has achieved yet another milestone, this time with the Baleno. Long back the Baleno name was introduced in India as a premium sedan. It caught the eyes of many petrolheads because of the Baleno’s sporty looks.

Now, back in 2015, Maruti relaunched the Baleno name but in a hatchback form. It was priced between Rs 5.67 Lakhs to Rs 9 Lakhs, going up against the likes of Hyundai Elite i20, Honda Jazz, Volkswagen Polo and Ford Freestyle.

Maruti Baleno is the most popular in this segment and is also amongst the best-selling hatchbacks in India. Every month, it manages to make into the top 5 selling cars of India, sometimes reporting better sales record than the WagonR and Swift itself.

Earlier this year, Maruti launched the Baleno facelift which gave it refreshed interiors, revised bumpers and new alloy wheels. Also, Baleno was the first model from the Japanese giant to get a BS-6 compliant engine.

As of now, the Baleno is available in three engine options – a 1.2 Litre petrol, 1.2 Litre petrol smart-hybrid and 1.3 Litre DDiS diesel engine. The diesel engine will be discontinued post-April 2020, courtesy BS-6 norms.

The diesel engine, petrol engine and petrol smart-hybrid come with a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard. The petrol unit further gets an optional CVT gearbox as well. It is the only Maruti car to feature a CVT.
