The Skoda Octavia Onyx Edition gets an all-black theme on the exterior and interior and is up there with the Style variant in terms of features, still being cheaper.
Skoda Auto India has launched a new limited edition model of the Octavia called the Onyx Edition. It will be available in both petrol and diesel guise and has been priced from Rs. 19.99 lakh to Rs. 21.99 lakh (ex-showroom, India). If you are familiar with Skoda Onyx Editions, you would know the Onyx Edition cars are characterized by a distinctive all-black theme on the inside and outside.
This is a new entry-level trim of the Octavia and it will be available as a petrol-automatic or as a diesel automatic configuration. The prices are about Rs 60,000 and Rs 1 lakh less than the Style variants of the respective configuration.
So what exactly are the differences? Well, the Skoda Octavia Onyx Edition comes with blacked out ORVMs, along with new glossy black 16-inch Premia alloy wheels. There are black decals along the sides and the rear deck is garnished by a glossy black spoiler that makes the car look quite the part and sporty. The new Skoda Octavia Onyx Edition will be available in three colour options – Candy White and new colors of Race Blue and Corrida Red.
The cabin also gets its own share of updates. Instead of the beige-and-black dual-tone upholstery of the standard Octavia, the Octavia Onyx Edition gets premium black leather upholstery with some chrome highlights and a 3-spoke SuperSport flat-bottom multifunction steering wheel with paddle-shift and black perforated leather. It also gets 12-way electrically-adjustable driver and front passenger seats, with lumbar support and three programmable memory functions for the driver seat.
In terms of features, the Skoda Octavia Onyx Edition gets all the goodies available in the Style variant. It gets an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and MirrorLink compatibility, dual-zone automatic climate control, electrically adjustable driver and passenger seats, automatic LED headlamps with LED DRLs, automatic wipers, an auto-dimming IRVM and a cooled glove box. Safety features include six airbags, ABS with EBD and brake-assist, ESC, traction control, a rear parking camera, and front and rear parking sensors.
As for what’s under the hood, the petrol model is powered by a 1.8-litre TSI engine that churns out 180hp and 250Nm of torque and comes mated with a 7-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic gearbox. The diesel is powered by a 2.0-litre TDI motor which produces 143hp and 320Nm of torque and is coupled with a 6-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic gearbox. The Skoda Octavia competes with the likes of the Hyundai Elantra, the Toyota Corolla Altis and the Honda Civic in this executive sedan space.
