Tata 45X premium hatchback (Read More) has been spotted testing in Tamil Nadu. It is under full camouflage but looks like the production model. It has been spotted at a petrol pump, filling diesel. After Tata Harrier, this is the next product from Tata Motors. A couple of reports about the 45X premium hatchback say that it might have a mild-hybrid petrol system along with petrol and diesel variants. It will get a similar feature list to the Tata Nexon.
In the spy images, we can see that it gets production ready headlamps, tail lamps and the alloy wheels. The interiors are unclear but look like that it is also in the original production form. Since the launch is not that far away, there are chances that the production model is used for testing.
With what we can see, it gets sweptback sleek headlamps, a large air dam on the bumper, and fog lamps below the headlamp cluster. From the side, it looks like a larger version of Tiago. At the rear, it gets a rear wiper-washer with wraparound tail lights.
There are chances that Tata 45X might get a mild-hybrid petrol system. It could get a 48-volt electric motor, which will assist the engine in acceleration. The electric motor will come with an idle start-stop system, for better fuel efficiency.
For engines, the premium hatchback will most likely use the BS-6 compliant 1.2 Litre Revotron petrol engine, from Nexon. The engine puts out 110 BHP and 170 Nm of peak torque. It might use Nexon’s 1.5 Litre Revotorq diesel engine, that produces 110 BHP and 260 Nm of peak torque.
Given that it has been spotted in Tamil Nadu, where its performance partner Jayem Automotive has its workplace. There are possibilities that Tata Motors is developing 45X premium hatchback with help of Jayem Automotive in design, suspension tuning and performance.
Regarding the feature list, we know that it gets a floating touchscreen unit which is bigger than Nexon. Rest of the feature details will start pouring out as the launch is near. However, expect it to come with features that most of its segment rivals have.
Lastly, it will compete with the likes of Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Honda Jazz, Volkswagen Polo and Hyundai Elite i20. So, Tata might aggressively price the Tata 45X to fit in the segment. We expect the prices from Rs 5 Lakhs up to Rs 8.5 Lakhs.
