Tata showcased the 7-seater Harrier or the Gravitas at the Auto Expo 2020. It looks very identical to the BS6 Harrier with minor differences on the exterior and interior. Actually inside the cabin, lies the biggest difference that is the third-row seating.
It will come in two seating arrangements – a 6 seater as well as a 7-seater. With the six-seater, you have separate captain seats on the front row with a joint two-seater seat on the third row. The 7-seater will get a joint three-seater bench on the second row.
Here are all the details that you need to know about the Gravitas:
Tata Gravitas Price In India
|Expected Price (ex-showroom)||Rs 15 Lakhs To Rs 22 Lakhs|
We are expecting Gravitas to be launched at a starting price of Rs 15 Lakhs going up to Rs 22 Lakhs (ex-showroom). It will be just about a Lakh or Lakh and a half costlier than the Harrier. The variants will be the same as of Harrier, just costlier. The top-end Harrier goes up to Rs 20.3 Lakhs and that’s why the Gravitas will definitely be around Rs 22 Lakhs.
Tata Gravitas Launch Date
|Launch Date||August-September 2020|
Gravitas has already been showcased in a production-ready version at the Auto Expo 2020. At the Expo, Tata had hinted us that we might see it being launched in the August-September period, just around the festive season period.
Tata Gravitas Engine Specifications
|Engine||2.0 Litre turbo-diesel engine||1.5 Litre turbo-petrol|
|Power||170 PS||150 PS|
|Torque||350 Nm||250 Nm|
Gravitas will share its engines with the Harrier. First, it will continue with the 2.0 Litre FCA-sourced turbo-diesel engine. The motor produces 170 PS and 350 Nm of peak torque. The second in question is a 1.5 Litre turbo-petrol engine.
Recently, there were reports suggesting that Tata is working on this petrol engine for Harrier and Gravitas. The former will get it earlier. The engine is supposed to produce more than 150 PS and about 250 Nm of peak torque. This engine will be a four-cylinder Revotron, developed on the three-cylinder one from Nexon.
Tata Gravitas Gearbox Options
|2.0 Litre diesel||1.5 Litre turbo petrol|
|Gearbox||6-speed MT / 6-speed AT||6-speed MT/Automatic|
Gravitas will get a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard with both the engines. Following that, you will get the option of a 6-speed AT with the diesel engine. Tata is reported to be working on a 7-speed DCT gearbox for Altroz. There are reports of Harrier and Gravitas petrol also getting them. Otherwise, both will do good with the same six-speed torque converter AT.
Tata Gravitas Mileage
|Fuel Tank Capacity (exp)||50 Litres||50 Litres|
|Mileage (expected)||15 kmpl||17 kmpl|
|Riding Range (as per expected mileage)||500 – 600 kms||800 – 900 Kms|
With the same fuel tank capacity of 50 litres, we are expecting the petrol engine to come with a claimed mileage of 15 kmpl and the diesel with 17 kmpl. In real-world conditions, the mileage of petrol engine can go down to 10-11 kmpl. With that, we are expecting it to offer a driving range of 500 – 600 kms. The diesel engine will get the same driving range of Harrier, about 800 – 900 kms.

If the third seat is folded, you can get boot space of up to 500 litres.
Competition and Rivals
Gravitas will compete with the likes of Mahindra XUV500, Jeep Compass and Toyota Innova Crysta. XUV 500 and Innova are 7-seater cars. Also, with this price range, it will compete with the likes of Hyundai Tucson and Isuzu MUX. Of course, Gravitas will come in as a cheaper alternative to Honda CRV and Mahindra Alturas G4.
In short, its list of competitors will include all SUVs priced in the 15 to 30 Lakhs range. With the right price, Gravitas is sure shot to be a popular choice. That’s also because Harrier gained immense popularity from day one.
