The Tata Harrier SUV is scheduled to launch in early months of 2019. Lately, it has been spotted a couple of times while testing. Sometimes on highways and sometimes it was spotted in the hilly areas. Now, fresh spy images reveal the Harrier SUV testing on a race track. Yes, it has been spotted testing on the Kari Motor Speedway in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. This suggests that the SUV is undergoing tests for high-speed cornering and stability. As the launch is getting near, the tests might be done for fine tuning of the suspension and steering settings. It was spotted under heavy camouflage, which could not give us more details about it. However, it spotted the same tires which are found in the lower variants of Hexa.
The Harrier came with 16-inch wheels with 235/ R16 tires, which come on the lower-spec trims of the Hexa. However, in the concept form, it had the Sport segment-leading tires, which would come in top-end variants of the Harrier SUV. The same idea is seen on the Hyundai Creta, where the top-end variant gets a bigger sized wheel.
The Harrier will come with a 2.0 Litre Diesel engine. This engine produces around 140 BHP of power and 350 Nm of torque. It will come mated to a 6-speed Manual Transmission along with a 6-speed AMT sourced from Hyundai. Along with this engine, the Harrier is also rumoured to get a petrol engine, sometime later. Another report says that it might also have an Electric variant in the lineup after 2020.
Features onboard would include Electric Sunroof, Rear AC Vents, LED Projector headlamps with LED DRL, Front, and rear armrests, Touch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Electrically adjustable seats, Hands-Free tailgate and much more. Safety features onboard would include 6-airbags, Electronic Stability Control and Vehicle Stability Management, ABS with EBD, Hill start, and descent assist, Front and Rear parking assist with a rear parking camera, Traction Control, and Brake Assist.
We expect it to be priced between Rs 14 Lakhs to Rs 20 Lakhs. At this price, it classifies as a premium SUV with all the latest features. Also, it is placed over the Hexa, which ends at around Rs 18 Lakhs. For the competition, it will mainly go against Jeep Compas and Mahindra XUV 500. Also, there are rumours saying that the 7-seater variant of the SUV might launch in India.
Currently, Tata has around 4 cars scheduled to launch in the next 2-3 years. The future lineup includes Tata Harrier SUV, Tata E-Vision Sedan, Tata 45X premium hatchback and the Tata Hornbill Micro SUV. Check out this space for details on the upcoming Tata cars in India.
