The much anticipated Mahindra XUV.e8 was spied testing recently with a prominent camouflage. It is, essentially, the electric version of the existing XUV700. We have seen the test mule on multiple occasions in the last few months. Mahindra has announced that it plans to launch as many as 5 new electric SUVs in our market by 2026. Some of them are based on the existing XUV700, while others will be Born Electric (BE) based on a new INGLO skateboard EV platform. For now, let us take a look at the details of the latest spotting.
Mahindra XUV.e8 Spied Testing
We found this video by autojournal_india on Instagram. It captures the heavily camouflaged SUV plying on public roads. Someone driving behind it is making the video. Even though it is wearing a thick covering, its tail section gives away its credentials. In the initial phase of the video, one could see the angular headlamps on the extreme edges of the bumper. An upright bonnet and rugged skid plate section are somewhat distinguishable even over the camouflage. I even see a large panoramic sunroof. The rear section bears distinct similarities with the XUV700 in terms of roof rails, shark fin antenna, LED taillamps, bootlid and bumper. It certainly lends an imposing road presence.
Specs
While there are no official details regarding the specifications of the Mahindra XUV.e8, the Indian auto giant has given some information. Hence, it might carry a large 80 kWh battery pack and a dual-motor all-wheel-drive configuration. The power and torque outputs will be around 230 PS to 350 PS, depending on the variant. I expect the launch to take place either by the end of this year or the beginning of next. In our market, it will rival the likes of the upcoming Tata Harrier.EV. The dimensions will be 4,740mm x 1,900mm x 1,760mm (length x width x height).
Our View
Mahindra is certainly gearing up for an exciting electric future with almost half a dozen new EVs planned for the next couple of years. Note that it already caters to the mass market with its existing XUV400. Hence, the plans are in place to challenge the segment leader, Tata Motors. With EVs planned in various segments of our market, Mahindra wants to come all guns blazing. The electric SUV onslaught will take the market by storm. I shall keep an eye out for more details in this regard in times to come.
