The second generation Maruti Suzuki Ertiga was unveiled today at the Indonesia International Motor Show. The MUV gets major upgrades in terms of exteriors, interiors, and features. It is expected to hit the Indian roads around November 2018. Most of the features unveiled today will be carried forward in the Indian version too.
India’s LUV or ‘Love Utility Vehicle’ gets a second generation model. 2018 Maruti Suzuki Ertiga was unveiled at the IIMS with a major facelift. The details of the car were leaked recently online. The car gets an increased ground clearance with plush interiors. It will come in a choice of 7 colours of Gray, Brown, Silver, Black, White, Burgundy and Red. The proportions look much like those of its predecessor, but its design is more appealing. The car is expected to hit the Indian roads by end of 2018. New Ertiga is based on Maruti Suzuki’s new HEARTECT design platform.
At the front, the new Ertiga features a new hexagonal chrome grille flanked by sleek projector headlamps. It also gets a more dynamically designed bumper, revised lower grille and a resculpted hood. The front fascia grille is different from the new Swift and Dzire. Also, the looks of the car are different than the new design scheme followed in new Dzire. The car now sports some muscle trails too. The car looks bigger than the earlier Ertiga, mainly because of its extension beyond the C-Pillar.
The rear body of Ertiga also gets a facelift. In the rear, it is given a forward leaning angle with a sporty tailgate and bumper design. The LED stop lamp on the rear spoiler is smaller on the new model. The chrome strip above the license plate comes without ‘Ertiga’ written on it. Lately, a lot of their cars came with model names written on the chrome strip. Also, the L-shaped LED tail lights look fancier than the older Ertiga.
Interior design includes a wood finish dashboard, similar to the new Dzire. The car gets beige interiors with a flat-bottomed steering wheel and door handles. The new instrument panel has a sportier design for the dials of the speedometer and tachometer. Also, the car gets a start-stop button, which will mostly come in the top end variant.
In the interiors, Maruti Suzuki Ertiga gets a floating Infotainment System, keyless entry, start-stop button, upgraded air vents, tilt steering and more. Exterior features mainly include projector taillamps, new 15 inch alloys, rear parking sensors, and power foldable ORVM with turn indicator. However, the unveiled version does not feature an automatic climate control option.
New Maruti Suzuki Ertiga is 4395 mm long, 1735 mm wide, 1690 mm tall. It has a wheelbase of 2740 mm and a ground clearance of 180 mm. The new Maruti Ertiga offers more space and features on the inside. Also, ABS with two airbags will be a standard fitting and will come in all variants. It will also come with EBD and ESP in the top-end variants. The HEARTECT platform also plays a role in safety, as it is lightweight and stronger than the earlier Ertiga.
The 2018 Maruti Suzuki Ertiga is powered by a new K15B 1.5-litre petrol engine, which replaces the K14B 1.4-litre petrol engine. The new engine will produce 104.7 PS worth power and 138 Nm worth torque. The transmission choices remain the 5-speed manual and 4-speed automatic. Also, this engine has been developed in-house by Maruti Suzuki. The fuel economy is rated at 18.06 km/l for Manual Transmission and 16.73 km/l for Automatic Transmission.
The new Maruti Suzuki Ertiga is expected to hit the Indian roads by this year-end. According to the uplift and more features, it is likely to cost a little more than the current model. The expected price of the car is around 6.5 Lakh to Rs 9.5 Lakh (ex-showroom).
