The 2019 Maruti Wagon R underpins the same lightweight platform as that of the Maruti Swift which leads to a reduction in its weight and better mileage.
Maruti Suzuki is going to launch a major generation update of the WagonR hatchback in India on the 23rd of January 2019. Ahead of its launch, the Indo-Japanese automaker has started the official bookings of the new WagonR in India. In addition to this, Maruti Suzuki has also revealed some basic information regarding a number of different specifications of the new iteration of this hatchback.
For instance, clearing earlier rumours stating that the new WagonR is going to miss out of Suzuki’s new HEARTECT platform, the automaker has confirmed that the same is not going to be the case. The 2019 Maruti Wagon R is based on Suzuki’s new lightweight platform and hence is going to shed a considerable amount of weight in comparison to the model it will replace. And just as we saw on some of the other models from Maruti Suzuki which moved to this new architecture, the WagonR will benefit from improved fuel efficiency figures.
The 2019 Maruti Wagon R is going to come with two engine options. Base variants are going to come with the same 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine. On the other hand, the top-spec, as well as the mid-spec variants, will be offered with Swift’s 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder. The former is capable of churning out 63 BHP along with 90 Nm of peak torque. The later is capable of churning out 82 BHP along with 114 Nm of peak torque. Both the engines will be available with a 5-speed manual gearbox along with a 5-speed AMT gearbox.
The new 2019 Maruti Wagon R packs in Suzuki’s new 7-inch Smartplay infotainment system which is available with Android Auto and Apple Car Play. Right from the base variant onwards, you get driver side airbags, ABS with EBD along with rear parking sensors and speed alert system as standard. Top spec variants are available with dual airbags along with rear parking camera.
Prices for the 2019 Maruti Wagon R is expected to fall in-between the range of INR 3.5 lakh to INR 6.5 lakh. When launched, the Wagon R will compete against the likes of Hyundai Santro and the Tata Tiago.
