Recently, many reports came suggesting that Mahindra is going to extend the TUV 300 and KUV 100 range. In this report, also, XUV 500 and Scorpio were mentioned. It said that the XUV 500 and Scorpio new generation models will come and the new Scorpio will most likely launch in 2020. The SUV will get a more aggressive stance, new features and mainly a whole new design work. None other than Pininfarina will design the 2020 Mahindra Scorpio.
The upcoming 2020 Mahindra Scorpio will get a complete design change. It will get a more aggressive SUV look with many premium features onboard. Reports also suggest that it will come with many segment first features.
The launch of the new Scorpio is most likely to happen after the BS-VI emission norms kick in. So expect the new SUV to launch after April 2020, because, that’s when the emission norms come into play.
The Mahindra-owned design firm, Pininfarina will majorly help in the development of new Scorpio. The recent Mahindra model to be built with the help of Pininfarina is the MPV Marazzo. Mahindra’s in-house studio along with Pininfarina will help with the design ideas and whichever is the best will be selected.
Reports say that the new Mahindra Scorpio will get a proper compact-SUV shape. A smaller Scorpio might look a bit weird, right?
We believe that the 2020 Scorpio will give a tough competition to the upcoming Tata Harrier. The Harrier is going to launch in initial months of 2019 to take on the likes of Scorpio, XUV 500, Jeep Compass and more. However, the Harrier will be the costliest Tata car in India. So, expect it to come with a huge list of features.
Powering the Scorpio are two engines – 2.5 Litre CRDi engine and a 2.2 Litre mHawk turbo-charged diesel engine. The CRDi engine produces around 75 BHP of power and 200 Nm of torque. The other engine comes with two states of tuning. One state of tuning produces 120 BHP of power and 280 Nm of torque and the other one produces 140 BHP of power and 320 Nm of torque.
The CRDi gets a 5-speed transmission only and the mHawk engine gets a 5-speed MT and optional 6-speed MT in the higher variants. Earlier, it used to offer an automatic transmission, which was discontinued. In the new Scorpio, we expect a new Automatic gearbox to also come. The top-spec S11 variant also gets a 4WD system.
The Mahindra Scorpio is priced starting from Rs 9.99 lakhs and goes up to Rs 16.35 Lakhs (ex-showroom New Delhi).
