2022 Honda CR-V concept patent design has surfaced on the internet. The CR-V was discontinued in the Indian market recently due to the BS6 transition and low demand for the premium SUV. The CR-V was one of the first 5-seat premium SUVs in India and did witness quite a few buyers. At the time, it was considered an aspirational vehicle. It came with high-quality interiors, premium comfort and convenience features and powerful engines. The CR-V was large and had a road presence, something that the Indian customers adore. But as the competition crept up in the mid-size SUV segment after the arrival of Creta and subsequently the likes of Seltos, Harrier, Hector and more.
Carmakers like Mahindra, Tata, MG and Hyundai started offering 7-seat configuration in mid-size SUV space with products like XUV500, Safari, Hector Plus and Alcazar respectively. Hence, products like the Honda CR-V started losing their appeal. The transition to BS6 was also not exactly cheap. To make such big diesel engines road-worthy in accordance with the latest emission norms would’ve cost a ton of money, essentially driving the prices way up. Hence, Honda decided to pull the plug on CR-V along with the premium sedan, Civic last year. But now, the patent images have leaked online and here are our thoughts on it.
