Looks like Tata is going to continue with the mighty Hexa as it might get a BS6 diesel engine. However, the launch is likely to happen by the end of 2020.

Earlier, it was widely rumoured that Tata will discontinue the Hexa ahead of BS6 norms. The capable MPV had a comparatively older engine and was slowly not generating desired sales numbers for the brand. Thanks to the Harrier, the buyers started choosing it over Hexa.

Now, reports suggest that BS6 Tata Hexa might be incoming. Defying earlier rumours of the upcoming Gravitas replacing it, Tata might launch the updated MPV by the end of 2020. A long period after the BS6 deadline kicks in.

BS6 Tata Hexa will continue with the same 2.2 litre Varicor four-cylinder turbo-diesel motor. The engine comes in two states of tune, for the lower and the higher variants. In one state, it produces 148 BHP and 320 Nm of peak torque. In the higher state of tune, the engine produces 154 BHP and 400 Nm of peak torque.

With the BS6 upgrade, the power figures will be different as the engine will receive some tweaks to make it compliant. Just like now, the Hexa will continue with the options of a 5-speed MT, a 6-speed MT and a 6-speed AT.

Tata Hexa is known to be a decent off-roader packed with options of Rear Wheel Drive and All-Wheel Drive. Despite being quite long and heavy, its departure and landing angles make it something more than a mild-off roader.

The prices of Hexa current start off at Rs. 12.99 lakh to Rs. 18.37 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Its top-end variant is costlier than the Harrier. The BS6 upgrade will further hike the prices of Hexa by at least a Lakh and a half. To jazz things up, Tata might refresh the Hexa with a facelift and BS6 engine.

Alongside Hexa, Tata is also going to launch another seven-seater SUV. Tata Gravitas or the 7-seater Harrier will debut at the 2020 Auto Expo. Tata will position it over the Hexa in terms of pricing and features, however, the latter will still be bigger than Gravitas.
