MG-G10

The MG G10 is actually larger than the Kia Carnival in dimensions as is pretty well kitted too. MG hasn’t said anything about when its coming but its certainly under consideration.

The MPV segment is also seeing a lot of action lately. We saw the Maruti Suzuki XL6 come out in 2019 and recently, Kia has brought in the Carnival MPV to India. Now, MG Motors have unveiled the G10 MPV at the 2020 Auto Expo and its meant to be a direct rival to the Kia Carnival. This is the first time that the G10 is being badged as an MG. The G10 is an already established product under the SAIC umbrella and has been on sale as the LDV G10 and Maxus G10 in markets such as China and Australia.ย

In terms of dimensions, the MG G10 measures 5,168mm in length, 1,980mm in width and 1,928mm in height. That makes it even larger than the Kia Carnival that its meant to rival. In terms of styling, the G10 has good proportions for an MPV with a defined bonnet, alarge cabin space and an upright tail. The design is simple and neat. However, a little more details on the body work and larger wheels would definitely work well. The MG G10 gets sliding doors and MG has done a good job in hiding the door rails under the window line.

The MG G10 will also be available in 7-,8- and 9-seat configurations, just like the Kia Carnival. The display car at the Auto Expo was the 9-seater version with four rows of seats. The top-spec 7-seater goes one-up on the Carnival with power adjust for the middle-row captainโ€™s chairs. It also includes powered foot rests. If it intends to rival the Carnival, it has be pretty well equipped and that it is. MG is offering features like multi-zone AC, a large HD touchscreen infotainment system, a smart sensing tailgate and a powered sunroof.ย

In China, the G10 MPV is powered by a 2.4-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine that produces 140 bhp and 210 Nm of peak torque and comes mated to a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission. There is also a 2.0-litreย turbo-petrol engine on offer mated to a 5-speed manualย transmission or 1.9-litre, turbocharged diesel engine paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. The engine configuration and outputs vary according to the market they are sold in.

The MG G10 is clearly aimed at private buyers, unlike the international market where its used more for fleet purposed. While the Kia Carnival will be the prime rival, the MGโ€™s size and feature set could tempt buyers interested in the soon-to-be-launched Toyota Vellfire too. MG also showcased the smaller, Ertiga-rivalingย 360M MPVย at Auto Expo 2020.ย  ย
