Toyota Raize Walkaround

Seen in the video below is the 2022 Toyota Raize Compact SUV could spawn an India-spec model to rival Hyundai Venue and Tata Nexon

Toyota Raize is a popular compact SUV in the international market and while it is not India-bound anytime soon, the carmaker is said to be working on an India-spec SUV that will share its underpinnings with the compact SUV. As per the dimensions, the Raize fits into the compact SUV segment in our market with a length of just under 4 m, which means a Raize-based offering could very well go on to rival the likes of Tata Nexon. Incidentally, the sub-4 m segment is also the most competitive space in the Indian market. This is a playground for all the major carmakers in the country. Other products in the segment include Maruti Brezza, Mahindra XUV300, Hyundai Venue and Kia Sonet.

Toyota Raize – Exterior Design

Toyota has been present in this segment with the badge-engineered version of the Brezza under the moniker of Urban Cruiser. But won’t an all-new product based on the Raize give TKM a strong contender in the market? A walkaround of the international model not just gives us a good look at the compact SUV but even helps us understand what its India-spec sibling could be like.

The Raize embodies the typical Toyota design langue with a slim front grille with piano black material, sleek LED headlamps with LED DRLs, a broad radiator grille, a sporty bumper with a horizontal fog lamp and sculpted fog lamp housing giving it a strong character. The side profile is quite simple with no distinct creases. However, the large 17-inch dual-tone alloy wheels light up the side face along with relatively chunky wheel arches. The A and B pillars are blacked-out and it has body-coloured door handles. The tail end of the SUV looks modern too with split LED taillamps connected by a glossy black panel, roof-mounted spoiler, and chunky bumper to give the rear an SUV-ish stance.

Interior and Features

The interior of the Toyota Raize is quite simple too. The overall theme is black with not too many screens like we are used to seeing in modern cars. The instrument cluster is analog with MID at the centre, the infotainment system looks aftermarket with a small size, the steering wheel has controls for media and voice command, and the AC settings are manual switches which look rather too simple. There is the provision of Android Auto but Apple CarPlay is missing. What is interesting is the fact that it gets a full-size spare tyre with an alloy wheel.

Specs

The international turbo version of the Toyota Raize comes powered by a 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine that churns out 100 PS and 140 Nm of peak power and torque. The transmission duties are carried by either a 5-speed manual or a CVT automatic gearbox. The video mentions the fuel economy of around 20 km/l which is quite impressive. If the Raize makes it to our shores, it would have to be priced at around Rs 7-11 lakh, ex-showroom. Let us know if you would like Toyota to launch the Raize in India.
