2022 MG Hector facelift front and rear

In the face of stiff competition, MG will soon give its first SUV for our market, the Hector, a facelift.

It looks like the 2022 MG Hector facelift would look like the Wuling Almaz RS sold in Indonesia. Hector was the first product from MG when it entered our market back in 2019. It enjoyed a decent level of success before rivals like the Tata Harrier, Safari, Mahindra XUV700 and Hyundai Alcazar arrived. Now, in order to boost its sales to the old levels, MG is updating its mid-size SUV. The representative images seen below visualize what the Almaz RS-based Hector would look like.

If the styling package of the Wuling Almaz RS is anything to go by, the front fascia of the MG Hector will get a significant modification in this updated version. There are slim LED DRLs on the bonnet, while the main headlight cluster is positioned on the bumper with the fog lamps housing, the grille now has horizontal patterns with the MG logo at the center which makes the face look broader. The overall silhouette of the 2022 version resembles the existing model.

A major highlight of the features pack for the new model will be Level 2 ADAS. MG already offers ADAS Level 1 on its flagship offering, the Gloster, and ADAS Level 2 on its mid-size SUV, the Astor. Hence, it could be safely concluded that the updated version of the Hector will most likely come with the Level 2 ADAS features as well. This could include functions like Adaptive Cruise Control, Autonomous Emergency Braking, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keep Assist, Parking Assist, etc. In addition to that, there might also be in-cabin features like AI Assistant like the Astor. We can be rest assured that MG will leverage all the technology to equip this version of the Hector with the latest convenience features.

Specs

We expect the MG Hector to remain unchanged when it comes to the powertrain options. Currently, the MG Hector is powered by 1.5-litre turbo petrol and a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine with mild-hybrid technology. Both engines offer 143 PS and 250 Nm. For transmission, you can choose a manual or a CVT automatic gearbox. On the other hand, the 2.0-litre diesel engine produces 170 hp and 350 Nm. it comes with a 6-speed manual transmission option only. The price starts at Rs 14.15 lakh and goes up to Rs 20.11 lakh, ex-showroom. The updated version will command a premium over these prices.
