The latest ad related to 6 airbags in cars has become a matter of flak for the Union Minister of Roads, Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari. He has been actively pursuing the policy to make 6 airbags in cars mandatory for quite some time now and has drafted the proposal as well. In the meanwhile, the government decided to raise awareness regarding the same via the medium of advertisements and marketing campaigns. However, the results are not what anyone would have anticipated.

Gadkari Faces Flak For 6 Airbags Ad
In the ad, a father is seen crying at the moment when he bids farewell to his daughter who is sitting in a car with her new husband. Akshay Kumar portrays a policeman and a friend of the father, who taunts that it is a matter of sadness and that a car with just 2 airbags is not what the father should’ve given to her daughter. This aspect has not gone down well with the netizens. This scene is being seen as promoting the dowry culture which is illegal in India now. As a result, both Nitin Gadkari and Akshay Kumar are in the line of fire from social media users.

However, it must be taken in the right spirit. This advertisement has been made to create awareness around road safety. Also, due to the recent demise of former Chairman of Tata Sons, Cyrus Mistry in an accident, the government is tightening the rules around wearing seatbelts even in the rear row. All passengers must wear seatbelts in a car irrespective of where they are sitting. The sudden impact and force in the case of collisions cause people to hit the interior of the car which must be prevented using seatbelts.
