Tata Altroz Crashes Into A Maruti Eeco

It is interesting to see how even 5-star safety-rated products could have bad days but that doesn’t mean that the ratings are not justified.

In this video, a crash between a Tata Altroz and a Maruti Eeco van is shown. Now, the Altroz is the only 5-star rated hatchback in the country. It has shown, time and again, how its rugged build quality has been able to save lives even in some pretty horrible situations. On the other hand, the Eeco is a popular van mostly bought by customers to use in the commercial space. It doesn’t boast a great build or safety features. Let us see how well it performs in real-world conditions.

Tata Altroz and Maruti Eeco Crash

The video has been uploaded by Nikhil Rana on his YouTube channel. He regularly posts such content in a bid to raise awareness among Indian car buyers regarding the relevance of buying cars with high safety ratings. This incident has been reported from Jind, Haryana. As per the information in the video, the Eeco was travelling ahead of the Altroz when the former suddenly got jammed. As a result, the vehicle came to a sudden halt. The Altroz was travelling at around 65 km/h behind the van.

However, due to the suddenness of events, the driver of the Altroz was not able to apply brakes quickly enough. Consequently, the premium hatchback collided with the van from behind. The damage is clearly visible in the video. Eeco suffered a slight deformation on the rear bumper, bootlid, side fender, etc. However, the surprising aspect was that the Altroz is seen with a crumpled bonnet, damaged bumper and a broken headlight.

Crumple Zone

However, before passing on a judgement, we have to understand that this is what the crumple zone is designed for. Under the impact, it crumples so as to prevent damage from entering the cabin. That is exactly what happened in this case too. The side pillars were intact. Hence, it is only logical and goes on to show that the structural design did its job effectively. No one was injured in this incident as a result. Also, the passengers were wearing seatbelts. Follow traffic rules and promote road safety.
