Land Rover Defender vs Ineos-Grenadier

The recently launched Ineos Grenadier is being considered as a reincarnation of the old Land Rover Defender.

Ineos Grenadier has been designed by Ineos Automotive Ltd. which was founded by the billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe to replicate the original Land Rover Defender SUV.

The Ineos Grenadier is supposed to be the much improved and modernised version of the original Land Rover Defender SUV. In fact, that is exactly what the billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe had in mind while coming up with the idea. He was so enamoured by the original boxy Defender that he went to Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) to finance them to keep making them when they announced to discontinue it. Thereafter, Ratcliffe took matters into his own hands and thought of developing a replica. However, over time, he decided to make a modern and more comfortable avatar of the original Land Rover Defender.

Ineos Grenadier has Exterior like Land Rover Defender

On the outside, the Grenadier looks almost identical to the iconic Defender from decades ago. The overall silhouette resembles the veteran SUV with a massive front end with a sturdy bumper, an orthodox bonnet, a side snorkel, round headlamps with modern LED DRLs integrated into them, a traditional front grille with what looks like fog lamps, a towing mechanism mounted on the bumper which is attached to the chassis, side steps for easier ingress and egress, solid side profile devoid of any characteristic creases, functional roof rails, steel rims and a bare basic tail profile.

In terms of the off-roading equipment, the SUV comes with a ladder-frame chassis, a permanent 4×4 drivetrain, water-wading capabilities, a 5-link suspension system, off-roading tyres, solid beam axles and a solid overall build. The powertrain has been sourced from BMW including the B58 3.0-litre 6-cylinder petrol and the B57 3.0-litre 6-cylinder diesel engine. The former outputs a healthy 286 PS / 450 Nm while the latter develops 240 PS / 550 Nm of peak power and torque respectively.
