Uber Green EV India

Uber Green EV India

Uber is a world-renowned commercial fleet aggregator platform that offers rides to people to commute.

The Indian division of Uber is all set to go green with plans of introducing 25,000 EVs in their fleet soon. Uber is a cab-sharing and taxi platform that is one of the biggest players in this sector in the world. To compete against the American giant, India also has Ola which offers the same services. While that is the present status, the future is electric and Uber is aligning itself accordingly. Its Uber Green strategy will ensure that it will electrify a large part of its fleet, a critical step in achieving its ambitious goal of having every ride as electric in its fleet by 2040.

Uber Green EVs in India

This post has been shared by justingurgaon on Instagram. As if to confirm the news, this post captures a unique sight on the streets of Gurgaon. The caption reads, “Uber goes green in India, launches various electric vehicle services in Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore.” To promote this initiative, a weird marketing strategy has been deployed by Uber where a Tata Tigor EV has been wrapped in fake leaves to make it look completely green. The symbolism here is hard to miss. But the purpose is unequivocally clear.

Uber is partnering with Jio-bp to bring BP Pulse to India under its global mobility agreement. This will enable Uber drivers to access their charging networks and also participate in developing new charging infrastructure. It will sit well with the Indian government’s push for greater electrification of public transport and shared mobility. Additionally, Uber will also roll out 10,000 electric two-wheelers in Delhi by 2024 along with Zypp Electric. The 25,000 EVs will be the result of partnering with prominent Indian EV startups like Lithium, Everest and Moove.

What We Think

It is becoming clearer with each passing day that electrification is here to stay and is looking like the only viable option to tackle vehicular pollution. Sure, there are plenty of challenges associated with EVs as well. But as more research is going into the industry, we are likely to have more affordable EVs and the electricity needed to power these would ideally be generated from renewable sources. Also, by the time public mobility is fully electrified, the charging infrastructure would also be developed a lot. That will be an additional boost to the mass adoption of EVs in the country moving forward.
