Royal Enfield Classic 650 Trademark Registered

The Royal Enfield Classic 650 trademark has been registered in India by Eicher Motors Limited. It represents a bigger avatar of the existing Royal Enfield Classic 350. The latter is an accomplished and the most successful retro bike in our market which has remained in production continuously for decades. The charm of the vintage appearance is still in demand today. Building on that, the Chennai-based two-wheeler giant is now about to launch the Classic motorcycle with a 650-cc parallel twin engine. In fact, it has already been spotted on multiple occasions.

Royal Enfield Classic 650 Twin

This video stems from Bullet Guru on YouTube. This channel primarily features content around Royal Enfield Bullet. On this occasion, it showcases the details of the trademark filed by RE which tells us that the new bike will be called the Classic 650 Twin. Going by the spy shots, it will sport a similar retro appearance as the Classic 350 with a round LED headlamp, a teardrop-shaped fuel tank, twin peashooter exhaust pipes, spoked wheels, wide indicators, a broad handlebar, elongated fender, and a bobber style overall look.

Specs, Expected Price and Launch

I don’t expect any changes to the engine in comparison to the other 4 Royal Enfield motorcycles which use the 648-cc parallel twin engine – Interceptor 650, Continental GT 650, Super Meteor 650 and the Shotgun 650. This means that it will likely produce 46.4 hp @7,250 RPM and 52.3 Nm @ 5,650 RPM of peak power and torque. This engine will pair with a 6-speed transmission. There will be disc brakes on both tyres with a dual-channel ABS as standard. At the front, it will get telescopic forks, while the rear suspension will be the twin shock absorber. It will share the chassis with the Shotgun 650. The motorbike could be priced in the vicinity of Rs 3.3 lakh – Rs 3.5 lakh, ex-showroom and we might see the launch either by the end of this year or the beginning of next year.

Our View

Royal Enfield has been on a roll in our market recently. It has promised to launch a new bike every quarter. It clearly has ambitious plans going forward. In fact, it is evident that it is concentrating on the 650-cc segment with 4 products already available and the 5th is preparing to arrive soon. It is leveraging its image and expertise in making large motorcycles and this strategy has worked wonderfully well for it until now. Going forward, we shall keep an eye out for more models in this space.
