Hyundai India has recalled units of the last-gen Hyundai Santa Fe in India to replace faulty brake lamp switch in these units. 2437 units of the SUV made between 26th June 2011 and 26th September 2013 are part of this voluntary recall, this essentially means almost every last-gen Santa Fe ever sold in India is covered by this recall.

The Hyundai Santa Fe was one of the first SUVs from the company that sold decently in India. Hyundai’s previous attempts at entering the SUV segment via the Teraccan and the Tucson failed to garner much in terms of sales due to high costs and because Hyundai was not as popular then. The Santa Fe, with it’s powerful 2.2-litre diesel motor and feature laden interiors billed itslef as a good alternative to the segment leader Toyota Fortuner.

The brake lamp switch is located towards the top of the brake pedal, it gets activated when you press on the pedal thus warning drivers behind you. The malfunctioning switch could either lead to the brake lights not lighting up when you step on the brake pedal or being continuously on.

Owners of the affected vehicles are requested to replace the malfunctioning part for their own safety as well of other drivers on the road.
