Skoda’s all-new Kodiaq SUV made its first public experience in Berlin last year. The 2017 Skoda Kodiaq India launch took place at an official event in New Delhi today. This is Skoda’s biggest SUV till date and goes on to rival the likes of Toyota Fortuner and Volkswagen Tiguan in India. Kodiaq, along with the new Superb, should help Skoda strengthen its position in the premium segment. The new 7 Seater Skoda Kodiaq has gone on sale in just one variant. Skoda Kodiaq Price in India

The new Kodiaq SUV has gone on sale in India in just one variant. It has an ex-showroom price of Rs 34.43 Lakh. Currently, the new 7-seater SUV is available only with a Diesel engine. it comes with a 7-speed DSG and an AWD system. At this price point, the Kodiaq ends up costing more than all its rivals. However, we are sure that it will be able to justify the higher price tag through its Teuetonic looks, spacious interior, a long list of features, and a high level of comfort.

Skoda Kodiaq India – Rivals

While its only direct rival in India currently is the Hyundai Santa Fe, in terms of pricing, it will also rival other SUVs such as the Endeavour and the Fortuner. Also, it will compete with the new Volkswagen Tiguan.

Skoda Kodiaq India Specifications

The Kodiaq, much like the new Volkswagen Tiguan, gets a 2.0-litre turbo Diesel engine. However, for the Kodiaq, this 2.0 TDI mill has been tuned to offer a slightly higher power. The India-spec Kodiaq offers a maximum power of 148 BHP between 3,400rpm – 4,000rpm. In comparison, the Tiguan offers only 141 BHP.

For international markets, the Kodiaq comes with a choice of 1.4 L TSI petrol, 2.0 L TSI Petrol and 2.0 L TDI Diesel engine options. The Kodiaq for India is likely to feature the 1.4 L Petrol and 2.0 L Diesel engine options. The petrol motor makes about 150 PS and 250 Nm while the diesel makes 190 PS and 350 Nm.

The India-spec Kodiaq offers an ARAI-rated fuel mileage of 16.25 KMPL. The Tiguan offers 17.06 KMPL

Skoda Kodiaq India – Exterior

The design of the Skoda Kodiaq takes inspiration from the Vision S SUV concept. It features Skoda’s signature styling elements. Up front, the new Kodiaq features sleek LED headlamps with LED daytime running lights and a chrome grille. The fog lamps are a bit unconventional in terms of placement and shape. In words of the manufacturer, the double horizontal lines running across the hood convey a sense of “protection and strength”. The highlight of the side profile is the greatly recessed tornado line that runs from the upper headlamps and runs across the entire profile. The large glass area visible in the Kodiaq’s side profile hints at generous cabin space. At the back, you get a typical Skoda boot lid profile with the recessed number plate area. The tail lamps feature LED detailing in the form of the signature ‘C’ motif design.

Skoda Kodiaq India – Interior

On the inside, designers have kept things simple yet elegant. You get a neat dashboard layout with clean straight lines. The touchscreen infotainment system takes centre stage. Below that, the climate control setup bears some resemblance to that of the Superb’s. Bits like the steering wheel and gear knob have been borrowed from the sedan as well. The 2017 Skoda Kodiaq will be a seven seater, a first for the manufacturer. Internationally, it is available with a five seat or seven seat configuration. India might get only the seven seat variant of the Kodiaq. Without the third row of seats, the Kodiaq boasts a massive 720 L luggage capacity. While the production spec Kodiaq ditches the individual screen setup seen in the Vision S concept, the rear seat passengers do get tablet holders.

Skoda Kodiaq India Engine and Transmission

International markets will get the Kodiaq with three engine options in multiple states of tune. These include a 150 PS 1.4 L TSI petrol, 180 PS 2.0 L TSI Petrol, 150 PS 2.0 TDI diesel and a 190 PS 2.0 TDI Diesel. All engine options are available with an all wheel drive system. While the 1.4 Petrol gets a 6 speed manual and 6 speed automatic transmission option, the 2.0 Petrol and 2.0 Diesel get a six speed manual and seven speed automatic transmission option. The Skoda Kodiaq in India gets only the 2.0 L TDI Diesel engine. This engine outputs a maximum power of 148 BHP and a peak torque of 320 Nm. The engine comes mated to a 7-speed DSG.
