2020 Mahindra Thar has been spotted testing on the roads again. This time, we have clear images from the front and back as well. Also, it has been spotted testing with an emission testing box.
As we all know, Mahindra Thar is set to receive a major update. The next-gen Thar will comply to the upcoming Bharat Safety norms as well as BS-6 norms. The safety norms are set to kick in from April 2019 and the emission norms from April 2020.
Meanwhile, the testing of 2020 Mahindra Thar has already begun. Another set of spy shots have surfaced up on the internet. The off-roader has been spotted testing in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. Unlike the earlier time, we have photos of the front and back as well.
2020 Mahindra Thar seems relatively bigger than the current one. It has grown wider, looking much like the original Jeep CJ5. The 7-slat front grille refreshes the styling of the UV.

The new Thar will also sport some modern design touches. Expect refreshed styling of the bonnet and rear end. The spotted test mule has steel wheels, but we expect the top-end variant to carry a new set of alloy wheels.
The new Thar continues with the same circular headlamps with indicators fixed on the front fenders. The spotted test mule is a Soft-Top version. The tail lights and hinged climbers are similar to the current model.
Also, an emission testing box has been spotted equipped on the back of the UV. It means that Mahindra has already started testing BS-6 engines.

For adhering to the upcoming safety norms, 2020 Mahindra Thar will get many safety features. It will come with dual front airbags, seat belt reminders, speed alert reminder, manual override for central locking system and rear parking sensors as standard fitment.
2020 Mahindra Thar will also receive a refreshed cabin. You can expect an all-new dashboard setup with additions of a touchscreen infotainment, revised instrument cluster, powerful AC setup and some more features.
The top-end variants might get ABS with EBD and a rear view parking camera as safety features. However, we expect switchable Traction control for better experience.
The new Thar is most likely to continue with the same engine setup. It comes with 2 engines – 2.5 Litre CRDE and a 2.5 Litre M2DICR engine. The CRDE engine comes in the top-end variant, producing 105 BHP and 247 Nm of peak torque. The other engine produces 63 BHP and 195 Nm of peak torque.

Additional off-roading equipment like 4WD, BORGWARNER transfer case and mechanical Locking Rear Differential will also remain the same.
