Maruti Eeco Will Be Updated With A BS6 Petrol Engine – Details

Maruti Eeco will not be upgraded to the K-Series petrol engine as seen in the Baleno and Ignis. Instead, it will use its old G-Series engine and it will be made BS6 compliant.

Maruti Suzuki Eeco will not be stopped with the new emission norms. Instead, the people mover’s car will get the BS6 engine indicating that Maruti Eeco will stay in the company’s portfolio for long.

Maruti Eeco BS6 engine will the updated version of the current 1.2-litre, G-series, naturally aspirated petrol motor. The car comes in both petrol variant as well as CNG option.

The ongoing model gets a 1.2L, BSIV compliant, naturally aspirated petrol engine which churns out 73 bhp with a peak torque of 101 Nm. The power figures decrease when the car runs on CNG and thus producing 63 bhp with 85 Nm of torque. Transmission option includes a 5-speed manual gearbox.

With the introduction of BS6 engine, the vehicle will see a drop in fuel efficiency and power figures. The ARAI certified fuel efficiency is around 15.37 kmpl and 21.94 km/kg when running on CNG.

The latest K-Series petrol engine which is seen in WagonR, Swift, Baleno and Ignis are designed for the front wheel drive layout and cannot be adapted to the rear wheel drive layout.

Recently, the Maruti Suzuki Eeco also got new safety features and this includes driver-side airbag, Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD), reverse parking sensors, high-speed alert system along with driver and passenger seat belt warning system.

The Eeco also got a steering wheel update. It has been borrowed from the Alto since the older wheel was not able to accomodate the airbag unit.

The prices of the Maruti Suzuki Eeco starts from Rs 3.77 Lakh for the base variant and the top model sees a price tag of Rs Rs 4.9 lakh. The latter comes with CNG, AC and Heater option. All prices reflect to ex-showroom, Delhi.

With the introduction of the BS6 compliant engine before April 2020, it will deliver less fuel efficiency and will provide less performance. But it will be refined and set to new emission norms so the Eeco remains in service for more years.
