Aprilia is going to launch two new 150cc bikes in India. The Aprilia RS 150 and Tuono 150 are going to launch in India by 2020, as confirmed by Aprilia. The RS 150 is a pure sports bike and the Tuono 150 is a semi-naked bike.
Aprilia is trying to develop new lower capacity bikes in India. As we all know, the 150cc and the 110cc segment are the most popular ones. The 150cc segment currently has over dozens of bikes. Most of them are commuter-friendly and good looking bikes. Aprilia currently sells 125cc and 150cc scooters and many powerful bikes in India like the RSV4 and Tuono V4 1100. Now, it is planning to launch a Yamaha R15 competitor, Aprilia RS 150. Also, with it, semi-naked Tuono 150 is going to launch.
So let’s start off with the RS 150.
As the name says, the Aprilia RS 150 is a pure sports bike just like the R15. It takes inspiration from the Aprilia RS V4. Like a proper sports bike, the RS 150 also gets the full body covering, heavy graphics, the typical front cowl, and the seating arrangement. It would be an ideal competitor to the Yamaha R15, who is another 150cc sports bike.
Moving on to the Tuono 150.
This bike too takes inspirations from the Tuono V4 1100. The Tuono is basically a semi-naked bike.
Now, what is a semi-naked bike, you ask.
Basically, it gets the front cowl which covers the headlights and usually in naked bikes, the headlamp is not covered. Also, the Tuono 150 gets a naked body covering, exposing the engine and other parts.
Talking about their engines, the Aprilia RS 150 and the Tuono 150 will sport a 149cc liquid-cooled engine. The engine gives out 18 BHP of max. power and 14 Nm of peak torque. The engine comes mated to a 6-speed gearbox with slipper clutch and a quick shifter system.
Globally, both the bikes get high-end features, but the India-spec variants would not receive these features. It will definitely come with front an rear disc brake and a dual-channel ABS safety feature.
Aprilia has stated that it is still studying the 150-300cc segment in India. However, it is going to launch a new range in this segment for sure. It can also happen that a more powerful Aprilia in the 200cc range.
Since it might be more premium than the Yamaha R15, we expect it to cost anything between Rs 1.5 Lakhs to Rs 2 Lakhs. The Tuono 150 might take on the likes of KTM Duke 200, Apache RTR 200 and such bikes.
