Bajaj has been teasing motorcycle enthusiasts for a long time now with teaser images and spy shots of the Pulsar 200 SS which keep surfacing quite regularly. Now, though, it looks like Bajaj is close to launching the Pulsar 200 SS in India very soon after pictures of a production ready version surfaced at a recent dealer showcase event held in Turkey. The expected launch date of the bike is some time in November or at least by year end at an estimated ex-showroom price of Rs. 1.3 lakhs.
The Bajaj Pulsar 200 SS is the younger sibling of the Pulsar 400 SS which was showcased at the 2014 Auto Expo with identical styling but a smaller 199.5 cc engine with triple spark ignition.True to the SS or Super Sports suffix the bike gets a full front fairing with edgy styling and elements such as the fuel tank design inspired by the KTM Duke series. Twin projector headlamps and LED daytime running lights complete the sharp, maybe slightly overdone fascia. The rear gets fancy L-shaped twin LED tail lamps and grab handles neatly integrated into the bodywork. Other standout features include a rear monoshock, clip-on handlebars, instrument cluster borrowed from the Pulsar 200 NS and LED turn indicators.
The engine on the Pulsar 200 SS is a single cylinder 199.5 cc unit borrowed from the 200 NS but it gets triple spark fuel injection instead of a carburetor. The power output will likely be similar to the 200 NS with 23.52 PS maximum power and 18.3 Nm maximum torque. It is not clear whether the bike will get ABS or not as the KTM RC 200 doesn’t. Other mechanical details will be revealed at the time of official launch.
The Bajaj Pulsar 200 SS promises to give a proper, affordable sports biking experience to the user which is what Pulsars are best known for. The bike will be pitted against the Yamaha R15 and Hero Karizma ZMR in India.
