The BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe is heavily based on the 1 Series hatchback and it will be powered by the most powerful 2.0L, four-cylinder petrol engine in BMW’s stable.
The BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe has been in the works for some time now and its only a few months away from its world debut. Now, BMW has released some teaser images of the sedan in its final testing phase. The BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe can be seen wearing a camouflage livery with a special QR code that leads to the 2 Series Gran Coupe website.ย
From what can be understood from the images, even through the camouflage is that the 2 series Gran Coupe seems to heavily inspired from the 1 series hatch. There’s of course the ever growing kidney grille and the headlamp units also look similar to the ones of the 1 Series. The new 2 Series also gets quite an aggressively redesigned front bumper with larger central and side vents.
There are no interior images or spy shots of this 2 series yet that have surfaced on the internet. However, we are expecting the newer interior design theme from BMW that’s also there in the 1 Series hatchback to make it here in the 2 Series Gran Coupe as well. ย
The 2 series Gran Coupe will be powered by the most powerful 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engineย that BMW has ever produced. It will be offered in two trims – the 228i with 234PS of power and 350Nm of torque, and the top spec M235i with 310PS of power and 449Nm of torque. The engine in both states of tune will come mated to an 8-speed Steptronic automatic transmission. Its also based on the front-wheel drive platform of the 1 Series and will come with front-wheel drive as standard but it can also be optioned to have four-wheel drive.
