The French carmaker is the latest player in the Indian automobile scene. Having already unveiled its first product in India, the C5 Aircross, it aims at increasing its footprint in the country from the very beginning. As a result of this, immediately after the official launch of the Citroen C5 Aircross in just a few weeks, Citroen has already planned a mass-market product to establish itself in our market. The C5 Aircross is aimed at getting the Indian customers accustomed to the unique design and feature-rich experience by the brand and the compact SUV (codenamed C21) is likely to follow, to capture a chunk of the fast-growing market. Targeting upwards of 90% localization with the compact SUV, Citroen aims to price it very competitively to take on the likes of Venue, Vitara Brezza, Sonet and Nexon. There have been the latest spy shots of the compact SUV which tell some interesting things about the upcoming C21. Let us take a look at what to expect from the French automaker.
Citroen C21 Compact SUV – Exterior
The spied vehicle seems to be the C3 Aircross, which is sold internationally. Citroen could be testing in this model because it will closely resemble the India-oriented compact SUV in terms of size and appearance. On-road testing to decide which engine-transmission combination is best suited for our road conditions and what kind of suspension setup will be the most potent for our roads are some of the factors why Citroen is testing the C3 Aircross in India. From the outside, one can’t confuse the Citroen product with anything else because of its unique design and exteriors. The C3 Aircross also belongs to the same family of Citroen and the squared-off theme continues in this model as well. There are sleek headlamps with a large bumper with a squared-off fog light unit and sporty front scuff plates to give it a sporty appearance.
The side profile is accentuated by the roof rails and floating roof effect with blacked-out quarter glass. The rear is typically Citroen with squared-off LED tail lamps unit with square-themed rear bumper with scuff plates. The overall design makes the C21 look modern and sporty and something fresh. For people looking for something unique in design, this will surely excite them. Although not a lot of details have been spied about the interiors of the C21, we expect a feature-rich, modern and high-quality cabin. This is because Citroen had announced that it will offer premium features and an overall experience to the customers. Also, judging by its larger sibling, the interiors will be premium
C21 Compact SUV – Expected Engines and Prices
C21 will most likely come with a 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine, making a healthy 130 hp. The transmission options will include a 6-speed manual and an automatic. These could be the best-in-segment power output figures but Mahindra XUV300 Sport will feature the new-gen direct injection turbo petrol engine from Mahindra’s mStallion family which will make similar power. Being a compact SUV, the C21 will take on the likes of Hyundai Venue, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Kia Sonet, Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV300, Renault Kiger and Nissan Magnite. The prices are likely to be very competitive to take on the competition and we expect the prices range of Rs 8 lakh to Rs 13 lakh, ex-showroom.
