The fastest-growing segment in the country continues to grow stronger with each passing month. Also, a ton of new players are joining the party, which makes the segment even more exciting. For the customers, it becomes easy to choose from a multitude of products depending on their requirements. But the veteran, Maruti Suzuki Brezza is going very strong and has become the fastest compact SUV to record 6 lakh sales in India. Being the highest-selling compact SUV for the month of February, it isn’t hard to see why. Although Maruti doesn’t have a diesel powertrain in its lineup, still the sales are pretty impressive. Let us take a look at how the other products in this segment performed for the month of February.
Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza – 11,585 Units
As mentioned already, the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza has once again regained to the title of the segment leader with 11,585 units sold in the month of February. In the same month last year, it sold just 6,866 units. This marks a YoY growth in sales of around 70%. The new competition in the segment has not appeared to impact Brezza’s sales which represent people’s trust in the compact SUV.
Hyundai Venue – 11,224 Units
Next on the list is the competitor from the Hyundai, the Venue. The Venue has enjoyed a fair bit of success for a long time and the sales have been consistent. In fact, apart from Vitara Brezza, Venue has always been on the top of this list of most successful compact SUVs in the country. February has also been the same for Venue with 11,224 units sold, in comparison to 10,321 units in February 2020.
Kia Sonet – 7,997 Units
The Sonet took the Indian automobile market by storm and established the brand Kia as a household name in India. Being the fastest brand to reach 2 lakh sales in India, Kia has only managed to achieve that milestone on the back of successful SUVs including the Seltos and Sonet. Sonet managed to sell 7,997 units in February and was not launched in February 2020. Compared to the sales from the month before, however, it has seen a slight decline.
Tata Nexon – 7,929 Units
Tata has been growing exponentially for a couple of years now and the Nexon has been on this journey since the very beginning. Being India’s first 5-star safety-rated car, it has come a long way from there and has grown stronger and stronger. Tata sold 7,929 units of the Nexon in February 2021, compared to a mere 3,894 units in the same month last year. This indicates a colossal 104% growth in sales.
Renault Kiger – 3,226 Units
The latest entry into the segment, the Kiger has already seen 3,226 units being sold to the customers. This marks a successful beginning for the most affordable compact SUV in the country. Launched just last month, it has been very impressive how customers have received the product. It has also to do with the affordability quotient of the vehicle which is pulling customers from across segments.
Mahindra XUV300 – 3,174 Units
The safest car in India, the Mahindra XUV300 has also seen substantial growth in February. Mahindra managed to sell 3,174 units of the XUV300 in February this year as compared to 2,431 units back in February 2020. This marks a significant 31% growth in sales on a YoY basis.
Ford EcoSport – 3,171 Units
Ford EcoSport has unfortunately witnessed some decline in sales in February. It sold only 3,171 units compared to 3,713 units in the same month last year. Part of the reason could be the cancellation of its Joint Venture with Mahindra. There have been no updates to the EcoSport for a while now and new products are grabbing market share from Ford. The new variants are planning to be launched by Ford, but for now, it looks tough to compete against the rivals for Ford.
Nissan Magnite – 2,991 Units
The compact SUV, that started this trend of affordable SUVs in India was the Magnite launched late last year. It is still coping up with the demand from over 40,000 bookings it has received to date. It sold 2,991 units in February and the demand doesn’t seem to end anytime soon.
Toyota Urban Cruiser – 2,549 Units
The rebadged Brezza has also been enjoying popularity under the banner of Toyota since their tie-up. Toyota managed to sell 2,549 units of the Urban Cruiser in February and that has contributed significantly to Toyota’s overall sales.
Honda WR-V – 1,004 Units
Last, but not least, Honda sold 1,004 units of its compact SUV WR-V in India in February 2021. This is a bit lower than the sales in January 2021, where it managed to sell 1,211 units.
