A mystery SUV has been spied near Ford’s plant in Europe which could act as the replacement for the Ford EcoSport with its debut set for 2020.
Ford has been working on a replacement of the EcoSport compact SUV which is rumoured to make its global debut in 2020. A recent set of spy images of a heavily camouflaged, Fiesta-based crossover has once again sparked debates related to the future of this compact SUV. It is believed that the new gen Ford EcoSport, in the international markets, will share its underpinnings with the Fiesta hatchback. Not only this, with the hatchback set to be discontinued soon, the new urban utility vehicle will carry forward its engine line-up as well.
The vehicle seen in the images projects more of a crossover vibe than an SUV aura. It definitely sits lower than the current generation Ford EcoSport. And by the looks of it, will have softer features in comparison as well. It remains to be seen if Ford decides to continue with the EcoSport nameplate of decides to given this vehicle a completely new identity.
That said, this mystery SUV clearly looks bigger than the current spec Ford EcoSport. Going with that, it could very well be a possibility that when this vehicle launches in India, it will compete against the likes of Hyundai Creta and Nissan Kicks.
Ford and Mahindra have recently signed a memorandum of understanding. Under this, these two companies will be sharing technology as well as expertise for the development of new products. Under this scheme, specifically for the Indian market, these two automakers will work on two new SUVs. One of these is going to be the replacement of the Mahindra XUV5OO, whose platform Ford will also use to develop an SUV of similar size.
In addition to these, the partnership will also spawn a compact SUV which will rival the likes of Hyundai Creta. Though in the international markets, the Ford EcoSport may use the Fiesta platform, but for the Indian market, this SUV is going to come with the new platform on which Ford and Mahindra are going to work upon.
