Tata Altroz is set to be launched soon in India and ahead of that, the engine specifications, dimensions, features and safety features have been revealed.
Tata Motors is entering a new segment which it has never tried to enter. With the Tata Altroz, the manufacturer is taking on other premium hatchbacks like Volkswagen Polo, Hyundai Elite i20, Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Toyota Glanza and Honda Jazz.
Ahead of the launch, we have details on the engine specifications, dimensions and features of the Tata Altroz. The hatchback will be unveiled today and the bookings for it will commence from December 4, for Rs 21000. The prices are expected to be announced later.
Starting with the engine specifications, the Altroz will get a 1.2 Litre three-cylinder petrol engine and a 1.5 Litre four-cylinder oil-burner. The petrol engine is from the Tiago but the diesel engine is a detuned version of the one on Nexon. Both the engines will be BS-6 compliant at the time of the launch.
The petrol engine is capable of producing 85 BHP and 113 Nm of peak torque. The diesel engine on the Altroz will produce 90 BHP and 200 Nm of peak torque. At the time of the launch, a 5-speed manual gearbox will only be offered, but later, an automatic gearbox will be launched. There are chances of it getting the 1.2 Litre turbo-petrol engine from Tiago JTP as well.
Talking about the dimensions, the Altroz measures 3,990mm in length, 1755mm in width and 1523mm in height. The wheelbase stands at 2501mm whereas the ground clearance is 165mm. The fuel tank capacity stands at 37 litres. The petrol variant of Altroz weighs 1036 kgs whereas the diesel variants weigh 1150 kgs.
Features onboard the Tata Altroz will include front and rear fog lamps, 7-inch touchscreen infotainment with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, 7-inch digital instrument console, projector headlamps, height-adjustable driver’s seat, steering mounted controls, auto climate control, rear AC vents, cruise control, Idle Start-Stop System and Front armrest.
In terms of safety, Tata Altroz comes with features such as dual-front airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, ISOFIX and cornering lights as standard fitment. The top-end variants will additionally come with a rear-view camera.
We expect the Altroz to be priced between Rs 5 Lakhs to Rs 8 Lakhs range, just like the other hatchbacks in the segment. We will be driving the Altroz from 5-6th December and our review will out on 9th December! Stay Tuned!
