Honda is all set to launch a new electric scooter on January 23. Some reports claim that it might be the much-anticipated Activa EV.
Honda is one of the few trusted two-wheeler brands in the Indian market. The Honda Activa is one of the most popular modern scooters in the country. Now, the Japanese brand is ready to step into the EV segment. Previously, it had announced plans for bringing 10 or more electric models globally by 2025. It is already working on two electric two-wheelers that will be exclusively available in the Asian, Japanese, and European markets. In India, Honda’s journey on electric scooters will start this month itself.

Honda Electric Scooter to Get Swappable Batteries
The Japanese automaker is expected to launch a new Honda electric scooter in India on January 23, 2023. It has already sent out Block Your Date invites for the launch event. While the details of the electric vehicle are yet to be revealed, the company has released a picture suggesting the future meets the present. It comes with the tagline – “Get Ready to FIND A NEW SMART.” The Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India is going all-in for the new electric scooter. Several rumors are suggesting that it might be the much-anticipated Activa EV.
As per recent reports and leaks, the upcoming electric scooter from Honda is expected to come with swappable batteries. Recently, the company announced the start of its battery-swapping service in partnership with Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL). Initially, the new service will be used for electric auto rickshaws. The upcoming Honda electric scooter might be the first electric two-wheeler with swappable batteries. In India, the battery swap service will be handled by the brand’s subsidiary Honda Power Pack Energy India Pvt. Ltd.
Could Have Affordable Price Tag
The above-mentioned battery swapping option will allow the Japanese brand to keep the initial purchase cost affordable. This approach will also remove the range anxiety many consumers have. Additionally, Honda plans to localize components for its electric two-wheelers. Since Honda Activa is the company’s top-selling scooter, it would be smart to bring its electric version and get a loyal base. It will compete with the likes of TVS iQube Electric, Simple Energy One, Ather 450X, and Bounce Infinity E1. More details are likely to be unveiled in the coming days.
