Mahindra Inferno is likely to be the name for the G4 Rexton based Y400 premium SUV which was earlier speculated to be called as the Mahindra XUV 700.
Mahindra is going to launch an all-new premium SUV of the 19th of October this year. As you must be aware, that this product is based on the G4 SsangYong Rexton. Currently, Mahindra has codenamed it at the Y400. However, since the very beginning, there have been speculations that the production version will be named as the Mahindra XUV 700 (Read More).
However, it seems that this is not the case. Mahindra, contrary to our expectations, is not going to use an alphanumeric name for its flagship SUV. According to recent developments, it seems that the Rexton based premium SUV is likely to be called as the Mahindra Inferno.
According to a trademark website, the name Mahindra Inferno was registered in Maharastra through the Mumbai IP office in July 2018. That said, these are speculations and the final name of this upcoming SUV will come to light once the company officially reveals it.
As we all know, the Mahindra Inferno (Mahindra XUV 700) is going to make its official debut in India on the 19th of November this year. It will find its place above the XUV 500 in the automaker’s product portfolio. As a result of this, it will stand as the flagship product for Mahindra in our country.
We are expecting the Mahindra Inferno to fall in-between a price range of INR 25 lakh to INR 30 lakh. With this price tag, it will compete against the likes of Ford Endeavour and the Toyota Fortuner.
The Mahindra Inferno (Mahindra XUV 700) is going to look almost identical to the G4 SsangYong Rexton. However, it will get several design tweaks which are going to make it have an appearance of a Mahindra product. For instance, the Inferno will get a classic Mahindra grille.
Inside, this premium flagship SUV will get a very plush cabin. Expect it to come with leather upholstery in a dual-tone colour scheme. Not only this, but the Mahindra Inferno will also score quite high in terms of its equipment list. Features like dual-zone climate control and a panoramic sun-roof are sure-shot inclusions.
From what we know so far, the Mahindra Inferno is going to come with a 2.2-litre, diesel engine at the time of the launch. This diesel engine is capable of producing 185 BHP along with 420 Nm of peak torque. In addition to this, Mahindra can also debut a 2.0-litre petrol engine as well. This engine is going to produce 225 BHP along with 220 Nm of peak torque. As standard, this SUV is going to come with an automatic gearbox.
