Mahindra and Mahindra is currently working on an all-new flagship product for their model line-up in India. Called the XUV700, this new SUV will take up its place above the currently on sale Mahindra XUV500. This product made its first Indian debut at the 2018 auto Expo. The Mahindra XUV700 is essentially based on the 2018 Ssangyong Rexton. And is going to come to India wearing the Mahindra badge and its indigenous styling cues. We are expecting the automaker to launch this vehicle in India sometime during the second half of this year. Probably around the festive season.
Due to its local manufacturing, the Mahindra XUV700 is likely to fall in the price range of INR 20 lakh to 25 lakh. As a result of this, it will undercut its competitors by a good margin. This will make it compete against the likes of Hyundai Tucson and to the Jeep Compass to some extent. By design, this product will share most of its styling cues with the SsangYong Reston. However, it will have certain Mahindra aesthetic attributes.
Since this product is going to stand as the flagship product for Mahindra, it will come with a premium cabin. Expect the range-topping variants to feature leather upholstery and soft-touch materials on the dashboard and door panels. In addition to this, the SUV will also come with a 7-seater seater variant. Furthermore, this SUV will have a vast feature list. Some of the creature comforts that we can expect on this vehicle will include a touchscreen infotainment system, multiple-zone automatic climate control, ambient lighting, electric seats to name a few.

Top-spec trims of this SUV could come with LED projector headlamps, LED daytime running lights, automatic headlamps, rain-sensing wipers among the others. The XUV700 will score high in terms of its safety features as well. Is likely to come with multiple airbags, ABS with EBD, traction control system, rollover mitigation system, hill-decent control and a few more.
The Mahindra XUV700 is bound to get Mahindra’s 2.2-litre turbo diesel engine. This oil-burner produces 178 BHP of power along with 420 Nm of peak torque. For base variants, the automaker will offer a 6-speed manual gearbox. In contrast, the range-topping models are going to come with a 9-speed automatic transmission. In addition to this, Mahindra is also going to offer a 2.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine with this vehicle as well. This engine is capable of producing 225 BHP of maximum power. As seen in the spy images, the XUV700 will also get a 4×4 drivetrain. However, it will only be available on the top-spec trims.
