- Maruti Suzuki has unveiled the long-awaited 5-door off-roading machine for India.
- It comes powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine that makes 103 hp and 138 Nm.
- It gets a 4×4 configuration and rivals the upcoming Mahindra Thar and Force Gurkha in a 5-door guise.
Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) has unveiled the much-awaited Jimny 5-door SUV for India. It has been a long time coming and the Auto Expo 2023 was the venue that brought the light off-roader to us. With this, Maruti will now challenge the unprecedented success of Mahindra Thar in our market. Jimmy has arrived in the practical 5-door version which will be a major pull for a whole bunch of potential customers. Here are all the details.

Maruti Jimny 5-Door Exterior
The exterior of the Jimmy is not all that different from the already established 3-door version that is on sale in the international markets for a long time now. The overall silhouette is bold and upright with rounded headlamps, a squarish bumper, a G-Wagon-like bonnet and turn indicators, fog lamps on the rugged bumper and the familiar grille with vertical slates finished in chrome. On the sides, Jimmy remains devoid of curves. The 15-inch alloy wheels are quite sporty, the wheel arch covering is quite pronounced and the side body cladding accentuates the toughness associated with an off-roader.

At the rear, the tailgate-mounted spare tyre reassures that feeling of a Jeep, and the horizontally aligned tail-lamps are old-school as well. Also, there is a quarter glass because this is the 5-door version. On the inside, there is a large 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with SmartPlay Pro+, Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Arkamys Surround Sound, stylish AC vents, steering-mounted control, and a MID instrument cluster, among other amenities. There are 6 Airbags, Hill Hold Assist with Hill Descent Control, Brake Limited Slip Differential and more safety features.

Jimny comes powered by a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol K15B engine that produces a decent 104.8 PS and 134.2 Nm of peak power and torque. There are options of a 5-speed MT and a 4-speed AT gearbox. More importantly, the Jimmy comes with a dedicated ALLGRIP PRO 4×4 drivetrain with a low-range transfer case. The SUV weighs 1,195 – 1,210 kg (kerb) and has a ground clearance of 210 mm. The front and the rear suspension is the 3-link Rigid Axle tyre with coil spring.
