Here’s a short drag race between the Maruti Swift and Hyundai i20. Both cars are petrol models producing the same power figures.
Hyundai i20 and Maruti Swift are one of the most popular hatchbacks in India. While Swift is a premium compact hatchback, the i20 is slightly more premium and bigger. The latter is also costlier by atleast a lakh, when we compare the top end variants. Also, obviously after VW Polo, they both are in the top 5 sportiest hatchbacks of India.
If you are confused between the Hyundai i20 and Maruti Swift and was to compare them just in terms of power, top speed and overall performance, check out this drag race between them. Both of them are petrol variants with a manual gearbox. Interestingly, both of them also offer the same power figures.
In the first round, Maruti Swift takes a very late lead showing the neck-to-neck competition between them. It inches towards the win just couple of feet away from the finish line. Seeing suck a close competition, there was another round of race. The second time, Hyundai i20 won in a similar way.
So technically, this race had no winner. Both had a very close competition and also had the same style of start. Like, there was no delay in start of either car in either race. In the case of Baleno, there are chances that Hyundai i20 would come out as a clear winner. Since Baleno is heavier than Swift, it shows a very small difference in the figures.
Maruti Swift gets a 1.2 Litre four-cylinder petrol engine that produces 83 PS and 113 Nm of peak torque. Even the i20 gets a 1.2 Litre four-cylinder petrol engine that produces 83 PS and 113 Nm of peak torque. Both the hatchbacks come mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. Interestingly, both of them are also without a diesel engine.
The new generation Hyundai i20 launch is due in a couple of months. It will get a fresh design language with a different bodyshape as well. There will be two new engines including a 1.0 Litre turbo petrol and a 1.5 Litre diesel unit. Many premium features like cruise control, electric sunroof, Blue Link internet car technology, etc will also come onboard.
