The launch of the new Mercedes Maybach S600 has been accompanied by the announcement of Roland Folger as the new MD and CEO of Mercedes Benz India Ltd.
The Mercedes-Maybach S600 comes to us via the CBU route and has been priced at INR 2.60 crores (ex-showroom). It competes with the likes of the Bentley Continental Flying Spur and Rolls-Royce Ghost.
Mercedes-Benz plans to make this ‘Best Car of the World’ even better for consumers with the Maybach treatment. Some of the highlights of the Mercedes-Maybach S600 are:
- Extended wheelbase of 207mm over the standard LWB S-Class
- The Exclusive trim package fitted as standard
- Handcrafted wood trim
- Exclusive nappa leather upholstery feature embossed Maybach crests
- Analogue clock with an IWC design
- Optional Maybach perfume AGARWOOD for fragrancing as part of the AIR-BALANCE package and
- Two silver-plated, handcrafted champagne flutes
- Burmester high-end 3D surround sound system
Powering the Mercedes-Maybach S600 is a 6.0 litre bit-turbo V12 which puts out 523 bhp and a massive 830 Nm of torque. This luxury barge weighs in at 2,335 kg, but still manages to complete the 0-100 km/h sprint in 5 seconds flat going up to an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h. The engine is mated to a 7G-tronic Plus Automatic Transmission. Mercedes-Benz claims that the S600 is the quietest sedan on the world, a feat they have managed to achieve through extensive testing carried out at their aero-acoustic wind tunnel.
The Maybach brand is not new to India. The Maybach 62 was sold in India before the brand was shut down in 2011 following constant losses. The company then decided to revive the name as a sub-brand of Mercedes-Benz producing uber luxury derivatives of existing products. The Mercedes-Maybach S600 was unveiled in 2014 and will be followed by an ultra-luxury SUV based on the upcoming GLS which will undergo a similar treatment.
