The MG Hector SUV is all slated for its debut next week. It claims to be India’s first Internet car and is loaded to the brim with technology.
The global debut of the much anticipated MG Hector SUV is just around the corner on the 15th of May, 2019. MG has already started production of the SUV at their Halol plant in Gujarat. Official bookings of the Hector will commence in June, 2019 with the SUV reportedly being launched in the first half of June, 2019.
MG Motors will start dispatching the Hector SUV to its dealerships post May 15. MG Motors will have 65 dealerships spread across 50 major cities in India. The MG Hector is essentially a Baujon 530 SUV that is sold in China, here being launched under MG Motor’s branding. The company however claims that they have done over 300 changes to various parts of the car to make the Hector suit the preferences of Indian customers and also suit the Indian roads.
The MG Hector brings a fresh new flavor to the mid-size SUV segment. It is equipped with cutting edge technology and looks quite the part too. MG Motors claims the Hector to be India’s first internet car as it comes with the next-gen iSMART technology which uses a sim card to access the internet and deliver safer, connected and fun experiences to the driver/passenger. It boasts of the segment-largest 10.4-inch vertically stacked touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility. It also comes with Over the Air (OTA) technology which allow customers to update software, features, themes, and infotainment content.
The MG Hector also has a very unique design language, definitely something we haven’t seen in this space before. The face is dominated by a large chrome-laden hexagonal grille with dual headlamp setup. There are slim LED DRLs on the top with the main headlamp and fog lamp cluster down below on the bumper. At the rear, the two LED tail lamps are connected by a thin light strip in between them and it looks rather cool.
There are other nice details like a chrome tailgate garnish, dual-tone bumper with silver inserts, roof integrated spoiler and dual-tone alloy wheels. The MG Hector comes fully loaded with high end features like the largest panoramic sunroof in the segment, 360 degree camera, automatic climate control, electrically adjustable driver seat and much more.
The MG Hector will be powered by a 1.5L, turbocharged, 4-cylinder petrol engine and a 2.0L, turbocharged, 4-cylinder diesel engine. The former produces 143bhp and 250Nm of torque while the latter produces 171bhp and 350Nm of torque. The petrol engine will also be available with a mild hybrid system which is claimed to be 12% more efficient than the standard variant. The technical specification are also a step or two ahead of the competition.
