2016 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport Unveiled. India launch in 2018. To Rival the Likes of Toyota Fortuner
Mitsubishi India currently sells only one model in the country, the Pajero Sport, which is manufactured at Hindustan Motors’ facility in Chennai. The SUV, which competes with the Toyota Fortuner, enjoys a steady fan following in India which is exactly why it would be a smart move on Mitsubishi’s part to bring the next generation model to India as soon as possible and not make the same mistakes they did with the Lancer sedan. A few weeks back we brought you the first undisguised shots of the new 2016 Pajero Sport which were taken during the car’s TVC shoot. Now, Mitsubishi has taken the wraps off the 2016 Pajero Sport and here are all the details. Mitsubishi could launch the all-new Pajero Sport in India in 2017, possibly sometime near festive season.

Price
Prices of the new Pajero Sport should hover around the INR 25-30 lakh region ex-showroom. In Thailand, the SUV is available in the following three variants:
- 2.4 GLS- 1,138,000 bahts (~INR 20.82 lacs)
- 2.4 GT- 1,250,000 bahts (~INR 22.87 lacs)
- 2.4 GT 4WD- 1,450,000 bahts (~ INR 26.51 lacs)

Seen below is another teaser of the upcoming 2016 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport (aka 2016 Mitsubishi Montero Sport aka 2016 Mitsubishi Challenger). As we’ve been saying, the new model has made its public debut on August 1, 2015 at the 2015 Bangkok Big Motor Sale. Specs
The new 2016 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport India could borrow its engines from the Triton pick-up sold internationally. We expect the SUV to be powered by a 2.4 litre, turbo charged diesel motor producing 178 bhp and 430 Nm of torque. There will be a four-wheel drive system on offer and transmission duties will be carried out by either a 6-speed manual or 8-speed automatic.

The Pajero Sport is the only car Mitsubishi sells in India right now and although they have plans to launch two new vehicles in India this year, a lack of spy shots and other details has put a huge question mark over those plans. Mitsubishi would benefit from bringing the new Pajero Sport to India at the earliest as they would be able to carry forward the momentum the current car has built up. Also, new competition in the form of the 2016 Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour and Chevrolet Trailblazer, are all headed to India by next year. An outdated model will not work out well for the company.
