FCA finally brought the iconic Jeep brand to India in August 2016 following years of delay. For now, Jeep sells the Grand Cherokee, Grand Cherokee SRT and the Wrangler in India. We’re not expecting Jeep to bring the new compact SUV to India until 2018. Although Jeep has been busy testing the Renegade in India, apparently that model will not go on sale in our market. The upcoming Jeep small SUV will be based on a new platform and will be similar in size to the Maruti Vitara Brezza and the Ford EcoSport.

New Jeep Compact SUV India – Specifications
There is no clarity on the engine and transmission options of the upcoming compact SUV. But we expect it to go on sale with both petrol and diesel engine options. Also, there will be manual and automatic variants on offer. Jeep’s smallest offering, the Renegade, is available in the UK with a 1.4 L Petrol and a 1.6 L Diesel among other engine options. While this 1.4 Petrol might make it to India, the diesel engine will have to be smaller than 1.6 L to duck under the small car regulations. What is confirmed, however, is the fact that it will feature an all-wheel drive setup. Jeep does not want to compromise on its core values even if it results in an increase in the development and production costs.

Like we said earlier, the launch is still more than a year away so there isn’t much information available right now. All we know is that Jeep will launch a compact SUV in India to rival the Maruti Vitara Brezza and Ford EcoSport. It will be manufactured locally at Jeep’s new facility in Ranjangaon, Maharashtra. Fiat will also share this platform for their future compact SUV.
