New details regarding the debut of the much awaited next-generation Maruti Ertiga are out. According to a report published in an Indonesian auto website, the 2018 Maruti Ertiga will make its global debut on April 19th this year. Suzuki is going to unveil the 2018 iteration of this MPV at the upcoming Indonesian Motor Show. The test mule of the latest iteration of this MPV was seen on numerous occasions in India recently. Consequently, we expect Maruti to launch the new Ertiga in India sometime during the second half of 2018. With this generation update, this vehicle is going to get Suzuki’s lightweight HEARTECT platform. Not only this but, in-line with new Government regulations, this MPV will be quite safer in comparison to the outgoing model.
In addition to the new platform, the 2018 Maruti Ertiga is going to get a major design overhaul as well. Going by the recent spy shots of the test mule, the updated version looks slightly longer than the current one. We expect, the next-gen iteration of this vehicle to get the same cabin layout as seen on the new Swift and Dzire.
So far there is no official confirmation regarding the engine specifications of the 2018 Maruti Ertiga. In the Indonesian market, Suzuki will launch this vehicle only with a petrol derivative. And that it will get a new gasoline engine. This is a more powerful 1.5-litre petrol engine. it will replace the existing 1.4-litre motor from the MPVs line-up in Indonesia. We are not sure if Maruti will do the same thing to the Indian spec version or not.
However, according to few media reports, the 2018 Maruti Ertiga is going to have a new diesel engine in India. Speculations are on a rise stating that Maruti will deploy its new 1.5-litre, EURO VI diesel engine in the new Ertiga. However, this aforementioned engine is still under development. Currently, the diesel derivative of this MPV uses a Fiat-sourced 1.3-litre DDiS oil-burner.
In addition to a 5-speed manual gearbox, expect the next-generation of this MPV to also come with an AMT gearbox. Furthermore, this automatic unit will come in both petrol and diesel derivatives. Thanks to the lighter platform, the fuel efficiency of the vehicle is set to improve. Maruti could continue to offer the diesel variants with Suzuki’s SHVS mild-hybrid technology.
The 2018 iteration of the 2018 Maruti Ertiga MPV will get several new features. These will include a touchscreen infotainment system, automatic climate control and projector headlamps with LED daytime running lights. Not only this, but the MPV will get dual-airbags and ABS with EBD as standard across the range.
