The new Maruti Swift 2018 is off to a very good start in India. The latest iteration of this mid-size hatchback made its first public appearance in India during the 2018 Auto Expo. Since its launch at the event, this car has garnered over 1 lakh bookings so far. Most noteworthy is that even before the new Swift was launched, it already had close to 20,000 bookings. These soon reached the mark of 60,000 within the first month of the car’s launch.
As you must be aware, Maruti Suzuki is currently working round the clock to deliver customers their vehicles. Not just the new Swift, but the automaker currently has a huge backlog of cars which include the likes of the new Dzire, Ignis, Baleno and Brezza. With the addition of the new Swift, the waiting period have consequently gone up. Currently, the waiting period of the 2018 Swift stands at 8 to 10 weeks.
The new Maruti Swift 2018 comes with a completely refreshed design which is quite modern and a huge step-up over the previous generation model. In addition to this, the hatchback offers a host of features which no other vehicle in the segment comes with. Not only this, the Swift now comes with a host of safety features as standard. These include dual air-bags along with ABS with EBD and ISOFIX child seat mounts.
Furthermore, the new Swift uses Suzuki’s new HEARTECT platform. This highly flexible platform is the same underpinning which we also get on the Brezza, Dzire, Ignis and Baleno. Not only does it offers a lightweight construction, but most of all it comes with high levels of structural rigidity and stability.
Maruti has kept the engine specifications of the new Swift the same as before. The petrol derivative of this hatchback comes with the 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder K-Series engine. This motor churns out 82 BHP along with 113 Nm of peak torque. While the diesel derivative comes with the age-old 1.3-litre, 4-cylinder DDiS oil-burner. This engine produces 74 BHP of power along with 190 Nm of peak torque. The new Swift comes with a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard. Not only this, but Maruti is now offering a 5-speed AMT gearbox as well.
Thanks to the already frugal engines and now, a lightweight platform, the 2018 Swift’s mileage has gone up significantly. The petrol derivates now promise a fuel efficiency figure of 22 km/l. While the diesel derivatives promise a fuel efficiency of 28 km/l. With this, the diesel variant of the Swift has become the most fuel-efficient vehicle in India.
Last but not the least are the prices of the 2018 Swift. Despite a generation update, Maruti has done a commendable job in keeping the prices very aggressive. The base petrol variant of the new Swift currently retails at a price of INR 4.99 Lakh. While the top of the line diesel variants costs INR 8.29 lakh.
