The new Maruti Swift has already been launched in multiple international markets including Japan, the UK, Ireland, Germany and France.
The pre-bookings for the all-new generation Maruti Swift have commenced with a token amount of Rs 11,000. Note that Swift is one of the most successful vehicles in the Indian car market ever. It was first launched in India in 2005. In the last 19 years of its existence, Maruti Suzuki has kept it fresh with plenty of major and minor updates. As a result, the demand for the iconic hatchback is still at an all-time high after almost 2 decades. Now the new Swift will further command interest of the potential customers by offering a new engine and features.

All-New Generation Maruti Swift
Maruti Suzuki has officially commenced the pre-booking for the upcoming 4th generation Swift. Since its launch, Maruti Suzuki has sold a whopping 29 lakh (2.9 million) Swifts in India. This makes it the no.1 premium hatchback in the country. On this occasion, Mr. Partho Banerjee, Senior Executive Officer, Marketing & Sales, Maruti Suzuki Indian Limited said, “The Swift has been an iconic brand for Maruti Suzuki, one that has evolved with changing times to redefine customer expectations. Its 29 lakh strong customer base and numerous awards & accolades are a testament to how the iconic Swift has gone from strength to strength. The Epic New Swift stays true to its much-loved sporty DNA, while balancing new-age expectations of environment friendliness with low emissions. As always, the next-generation Swift is all set to create new benchmarks in the premium hatchback segment and further the concept of the ‘Joy of Mobility’ in its own right.”
Evolution of Maruti Swift
Going by the international models that have already been launched, it becomes clear that the upcoming 4th generation Swift will be the longest in its history. That should inform the buyers about what Suzuki is aiming for. The length of this new Swift is 3,860 mm on the foreign-spec models. This is a full 20 mm longer than the outgoing model. The first generation trim was sold in India between 2005 and 2010. Maruti updated the Swift in 2010 in its second generation avatar making it considerably longer and more feature-rich.
The second-gen version remained in production until 2017. That was a long gap but the sales were always sky high as Maruti offered minor updates and people didn’t want to go away from the benefits associated with having the largest sales and aftersales network in the country. Not to mention, the mileage has always been a high point in Maruti Suzuki cars. That was true for the Swift since time immemorial. In 2017, Maruti Suzuki offered the 3rd generation version to the Swift fans. By this time, the hatchback had already attained iconic status in the Indian car market. In all honesty, that was the case in many other markets too. Finally, in 2024, we will see the launch of the 4th generation trim in India even though it has already been launched in its home turf in late 2023.

Specs
Over the years, Maruti Suzuki has offered the Swift with multiple powertrain options. Note that during its entire lifecycle, people have owned the Swift in petrol, diesel and CNG variants. Such accessibility is one of the major reasons for its immense success. Note that the Indian-spec Swift had the 1.3-litre G13BB 4-cylinder petrol, a 1.2-litre K12M 4-cylinder petrol and a 1.3-litre D13A DDiS turbo diesel engine throughout its lifecycle. The current model has a 1.2-litre K Series bi-fuel engine (petrol + CNG).
With the upcoming 4th generation model, we are most likely to see another new mill. This will be the Z Series 1.2-litre 3-cylinder (downsized) petrol engine with mild hybrid technology. The options of manual and automatic transmissions will continue. It will also be interesting to see if, in the future, Maruti Suzuki brings in a full hybrid engine in the Swift to offer incredible mileage. Sure, the initial costs will be high. But the substantially low running costs could compensate for that. Apart from that, the upcoming model will bear aesthetic customizations, as well as the addition of new-age features to entice new customers.

Our View
The official confirmation of the pre-bookings will definitely spark excitement among the potential buyers and Maruti Suzuki fans. Swift is among the most popular vehicles to have ever launched in our market. With a few modern touches and a new more fuel-efficient powertrain, I expect the charm and dominance of the Swift to continue going forward. Still, it would interesting to see the traction of the Swift up until the launch. We shall keep an eye out for more details about the new Swift as they appear.
