A couple of months back there we a number of rumours stating that Tata Motors has started working on an all-new Micro SUV for the Indian market.
That this new SUV, codenamed as the Tata Hornbill will launch in India sometime during 2020. And hence, act as a competitor for the Maruti Suzuki’s Micro SUV set to launch in India next year.
Now, curtsey Gaadiwaadi.com, a single spy shot of what seems to be like the test mule of the Tata Hornbill has surfaced on the internet.
By the looks of it, and since the vehicle is under heavy camouflage, its body shell seems to be quite identical to the test mule of Tata’s 45X concept based premium hatchback.
Just to jog your memory, the homegrown automaker is currently working on an all-new premium hatchback for the Indian market. It is based on the 45X concept which was made its debut at the 2018 Auto Expo in Delhi.
Coming back to the Tata Hornbill, this Micro SUV, when launched, will find its place below the Nexon in Tata Motors line-up.
It is likely to cost in-between the range of INR 4.5 lakh to INR 8.5 lakh. With this, in addition to the Maruti’s Future S, it will also compete with the likes of Mahindra KUV 100.
Tata Motors has been completely silent about the Hornbill. Hence, so far there is no official information regarding this vehicle.
Though it would be too early to speculate, we can still say that the Hornbill is likely to share its engine specifications with the 45X based premium hatchback.
Hence, the petrol derivative could be a 1.2-litre Revotron unit. While the diesel derivative will get a 1.5-litre Revotorq engine.
As standard, this micro SUV is going to come with a manual transmission unit. However, it is likely to come with an AMT variant as well.
Though this vehicle is going to fall in a budget segment, we expect it to come loaded with features right up to the brim.
Features like projector headlamps, alloy wheels, touchscreen infotainment system, parking camera are sure to make an appearance.
As with other recent vehicles from Tata Motors, the Hornbill is too going to get an impressive safety kit. Dual airbags, ABS with EBD along with ISOFIX child seat anchorage and rear parking sensors will be standard across the range.
Though Tata Motors is yet to confirm an official date for the unveiling of the Hornbill, there are speculations that it will make its debut in India at the 2020 Auto Expo.
The Tata Hornbill, however, is not going to be the only Tata product making its first appearance at the auto show. We are expecting the homegrown automaker to also showcase the 7-seat iteration or the Harrier SUV as well.
