Tata Motors‘ latest offering seems to have struck the right chords with prospective buyers. The Tiago currently commands a waiting period of around 3 months, which is a reflection of the small car’s popularity. Tata is looking to expand the Tiago range with the launch of a crossover variant – Tata Tiago Aktiv. With India’s crossover/SUV market growing at a rapid pace, the Tiago Aktiv will help appeal to a much larger audience. Tata Tiago Aktiv price will be around INR 30,000 more than the standard car. Currently, buyers can opt for the additional features as accessories. However, Tata will soon introduce a full-fledged factory built Tiago Aktiv variant.

Tata Tiago Aktiv Launch Date
Technically, the Tiago is already available with all the accessories as a dealer-level fitment. However, Tata is looking to put the Aktiv in production at the factory-level. The production of the Tiago Aktiv will depend on the demand of the product. If it is not too high, then the manufacturer might continue to offer the kit as part of the accessories package. We expect Tata Motors to make an official announcement regarding the Tiago Aktiv launch in the coming days.

While the accessories are already available as dealer level fitment. The factory built Tiago crossover will cost around INR 30,000 – 40,000 more than the standard variants. It is highly likely that the Aktiv kit will only be available in the top-spec XZ variants.

Tiago Aktiv features only exterior enhancements. The specifications remain the same as the Tiago hatchback already on sale. It gets a 1.2-litre petrol motor and a 1.05-litre diesel. For now, these engines are available only with a 5-speed manual. However, they will soon go on sale with an automatic transmission option in the form of a 5-speed AMT.

Tata Tiago Aktiv Exterior Design
The additions made to the Tiago as part of the Aktiv crossover package are restricted to the exteriors. The nose gets additional body cladding towards the lower part of the bumper with silver additions. The grille gets a matte black treatment to match the bumpers. Dual tone black and silver cladding has also been added to theย side and the rear bumper. Additionally, the Tiago Aktiv accessories also include roof rails, decals, and new alloy wheels. Black roof and wing mirrors match the overall design theme of the Tata Tiago Aktiv. Overall, the Aktiv kit adds a lot of appeal to the exteriors of the Tiago for those looking for crossover-like traits, but can’t shell out upwards of 7 lakhs.
Tata Tiago Aktiv Interior Design
The interiors do not witness any changes as part of the Tata Tiago Aktiv kit. It continues with the same well-appointed cabin at the standard car. Since the Aktiv kit will be on offer in the top-level XZ trims, buyers can opt for body colour highlights in the cabin for bits like the AC vents. Apart from that, the Tiago Aktiv’s interiors continue with the black-grey colour scheme. Some of the features include a Harman 8-speaker audio setup, multifunction steering wheel, Bluetooth, AUX and USB support. Tata could add special seat covers as part of the Aktiv accessories package.
Tata Tiago Aktiv Engine and Transmission
As we mentioned earlier, the Aktiv kit is merely an accessories package. So the Tata Tiago Aktiv continues to draw power from the 1.2-litre Revotron Petrol and 1.05-litre Revotorq Diesel engines. Max power and torque figures for the petrol variants stand at 85 PS and 114 Nm respectively. While the diesel churns out 70 PS and 140 Nm of max power and torque respectively. Transmission duties are taken care of by a 5-speed manual for now. Tata will also add an optional 5-speed AMT to the Zest petrol in the coming months.
