The Swift has always been and continues to be a major volume player for Maruti Suzuki in India. The premium compact hatchback, which recently received its third generation update has now cracked the 2 million sales milestone in India.
Maruti Swift, currently running in its third generation, recorded a 36% sales growth during the period of April – Oct 2018.
During the same period, this hatchback increased its market share to about 29%.
The current generation of the Maruti Swift made its debut in India in the month of February this year.
Launched at a very competitive price, it took no time to cement its place in the list of India’s top 10 best-selling cars.
Consequently, the waiting period for this car also reached soaring heights. As a result of this, Maruti Suzuki had to increase the production of this hatchback in order to reduce the waiting period.
The 2018 Maruti Swift, based on Suzuki’s 5th generation HEARTECT platform, boasts of improved structural rigidity. The lightweight construction of this platform has also helped this hatchback to increase its overall fuel-efficiency numbers.
With an all-new exterior design and interior layout, the new Maruti Swift has become contemporary and better looking than its previous generation iteration.
However, it still offers the same engine specifications as it did before.
The petrol engine is a 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder unit. While the diesel engine is a 1.3-litre, 4-cylinder DDiS unit sourced from Fiat.
In addition to the standard 5-speed manual gearbox, with the introduction of the third generation iteration, Maruti has also introduced a 5-speed AMT unit with the Swift as well.
Some of the major feature upgrades include LED projector headlamps, LED daytime running lights, LED taillamps and new multi-spoke alloy wheels.
Other than this, there is Maruti’s Smartplay infotainment system, rear parking camera, connectivity through Apple Car Play and Android Auto along with Mirror Link. There is a leather-wrapped steering wheel as well.
In terms of safety, the new Swift comes with dual airbags, ABS with EBD and ISOFIX child seat mounts as standard across the range.
Currently, the prices of the Maruti Swift fall in-between the range of NR 4.99 lakh to INR 8.76 lakh (ex-showroom).
