upcoming compact SUVs in India in 2024 Tata Curvv to Hyundai Creta facelift

I am listing out the prominent upcoming Compact SUVs in India in 2024. This SUV segment has witnessed exponential growth in the last few years. People are warming up to the idea of owning an SUV with a road presence. In comparison to hardcore 7-seat off-roading SUVs, the C-SUVs have retail stickers that are less than half. Hence, these are relatively more affordable and attractive. As a result, a wider range of audiences decide to opt for these. That is also the reason why even smaller SUVs are mega popular. For now, let us list out the SUVs you should be excited about in the C-SUV category.

Tata CURVV

The first product on this list is the Tata CURVV. Tata Motors is gearing up to unveil a new addition to its SUV lineup, named CURVV, which was showcased at the Auto Expo 2023. Measuring at around 4.3 metres, this SUV competes directly with the Hyundai Creta and intriguingly bridges the gap between the Nexon and Harrier SUVs. With its SUV-coupe silhouette, CURVV is designed to capture attention with its appealing aesthetics. The SUV will provide a range of powertrain options, including a novel 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine and an electric variant leveraging technology from the popular Nexon EV. Expected to embody a contemporary design, the interior is anticipated to feature cutting-edge technology, convenient amenities, and a variety of connectivity options.

Hyundai Creta Facelift

The Hyundai Creta maintains its position as the best-selling compact SUV in our country. Despite the introduction of the facelift version in the international market a few months ago, the current model continues to experience robust demand in India. This high demand has led the second-largest carmaker in the country to postpone the launch of the facelift. However, January 16, 2024 will be the day when the updated Creta finally makes its debut. Notable changes are expected in its exterior appearance, particularly at the front with the inclusion of the Parametric Grille. Interior updates may be modest, focusing on the incorporation of a few modern features. Furthermore, the facelifted Creta is set to adopt the new 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine introduced with the latest Verna, while retaining the 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine. This positions it as one of the most significant upcoming Hyundai cars in India for 2024.

Hyundai Creta EV

Notably, the electric version of the Hyundai Creta is poised to make its first appearance in 2024, adopting the body of the latest Creta model found in international markets. Anticipations suggest that it will incorporate unique elements to set it apart from the standard model. Interestingly, there is a possibility that it might employ the powertrain from Kona Electric, which has encountered sales challenges in India. The Creta EV could present itself as a feasible alternative in this regard.

Expect it to feature a 39.2 kWh Lithium-ion polymer battery pack, energizing a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) with a peak output of 136 PS and 395 Nm. Using an AC home charger, the battery pack can be fully recharged from 0 to 100% in approximately 6 hours and 10 minutes. Alternatively, a 50 kW DC fast charger can attain an 80% charge from 0 in just 57 minutes. As per ARAI, the Kona Electric claims an impressive driving range of 452 km on a full charge.

Citroen C3X and C3X EV

The French automaker is committed to upholding its stringent SUV-only policy in India. There are reports of the C3X, based on Citroen’s C3 Aircross, making an appearance in 2024. Essentially, it will adopt the powertrain, features, and aesthetics of the C3 Aircross, but its body type will lean towards a coupe stance. This design choice aims to evoke a sense of premium road presence among potential buyers. Following this, an electrified version is also expected. The non-electric variant might incorporate powertrains from the C3 Aircross, while the electric version could feature a more potent iteration of the eC3.

Renault Duster

The recent global introduction of the new Duster signifies a noteworthy development. The latest version of the Renault Duster is based on the CMF-B modular platform, a collaborative design stemming from the Renault-Nissan alliance. Offered in both Renault and Nissan variants, this next-generation model retains its iconic boxy silhouette and unique SUV appeal, drawing inspiration from the Bigster concept. With a length of 4,343 mm, the new Duster outpaces its well-known predecessor in size, accompanied by a substantial wheelbase measuring 2,657 mm, ensuring a formidable presence on the road. While international markets will have various engine options, the engine lineup for the Indian version is currently undisclosed. The expected debut in India is projected for the end of 2024, with the official launch scheduled for 2025.

Author’s Note

It looks like 2024 is going to be an exciting year for the Indian automobile industry. All major carmakers are preparing their new launches to expand their market share. India is already one of the biggest automobile markets in the world. After the last couple of years, our industry has finally bounced back convincingly. The pandemic and semiconductor shortage issues crippled the auto sector during this time. But this year saw a sharp recovery with new launches and high demand, particularly during the festive season. We are certain that this trend is likely to carry on going forward too. These upcoming compact SUVs in India will play a huge role in that.
