Cleveland Cyclewerks debuted the Indian market with two retro-styled American motorcycles. Now, the company has completely shut down its operations.

Cleveland Cyclewerks launched their two motorcycles, Misfit and Ace, at the 2018 Auto Expo. The company is based out of USA and was first introduced in 2009. It was inspired by the American-old school motorcycles.

The company had set up a couple of dealerships and an assembly centre in Pune. The bikes were brought in India through the CKD route. However, poor sales led to Cleveland Cyclewerks stopping its India operations.

Reports say that after the safety norms for two-wheelers kicked in, making the ABS mandatory, CCW found it difficult to cope up with. Also, reports started coming in that the company use Chinese parts and not from its origin in America. That gave a bad name to the company.

The Cleveland Ace and Misfit came with the same engine, a 229cc air-cooled unit. The engine produced 15.4 BHP and 16 Nm of peak torque which is equivalent to a regular 160cc motorcycle. While the Misfit was a cafe racer, the Ace was a neo-retro Scrambler type motorcycle.

The bookings for the motorcycles were not that great and apparently, the factory has been shut down for the past 8 months. The bikes were said to be in process of being updated to ABS but were never done.

The bikes were priced at Rs 2.23 Lakhs (ex-showroom), which seemed too much for a bike with such low powers and no history in India. To top that, there was just one service centre opened in its over a year of being launched in India.

Also, there is no clue if the existing owners will get any place to service their CCW motorcycles or not. Being poorly built, priced exorbitantly and low powered did not work out in the favour of Cleveland Cyclewerks.
