5-Door Force Gurkha Spied Testing

The 5-door Force Gurkha has been spied testing on roads for a while now. Gurkha is a prominent affordable off-roader in the country. It chiefly rivals the Mahindra Thar. However, now there is also the new Maruti Jimny to shake up the segment. Currently, the Gurkha is available in a 3-door guise, much like the Thar. Going forward, both these SUVs will have their 5-door versions to compete against the attractive and impressive Jimny. Let us take a look at the details of this long-wheelbase Gurkha which we will see in the showrooms pretty soon.

5-Door Force Gurkha Spied

This latest video comes from Raftaar 7811 on YouTube. It captures the Gurkha on the roads of Mumbai and Pune under heavy camouflage. There are various images of the SUV from all angles. Despite the wrap, the overall silhouette and the identity of the Gurkha are unmistakable. The SUV retains its boxy dimensions which makes it look imposing. From the sides, one could see the alloy wheels, side steps for easier ingress and egress, chunky and flaring wheel arches, and an upright stance. At the rear, it bears the typical SUV design with a spare wheel on the boot lid. In essence, it won’t be all that different from the existing 3-door model.

Specs

While there hasn’t been any official confirmation regarding the specifications, our expectation is that it will likely adopt the same engine as the standard Gurkha model. This specific engine is a 2.6-litre diesel unit derived from Mercedes, capable of producing 91 hp and 250 Nm of peak power and torque. It is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission and incorporates a 4ร—4 drivetrain, highlighting its off-road capabilities. There’s a possibility that Force might fine-tune this engine to deliver more power, but as of now, no concrete details have been confirmed.

What We Think

The Force Gurkha stands as the sole budget-friendly off-roader capable of rivalling the iconic Thar and the new Jimny in terms of capabilities. Nevertheless, its no-frills interior and somewhat limited feature set have hindered it from achieving significant sales figures. Despite this, there remains a dedicated community of hardcore off-road enthusiasts who continue to prefer the Gurkha over the Thar. Therefore, the introduction of a 5-door version would make a great deal of sense, offering increased practicality. Currently, the second-row window is fixed, but the 5-door variant will address this limitation. Additionally, Force has reportedly been exploring various SUV models based on the Gurkha platform, including a pickup truck. We eagerly await to see what the future holds in store in this segment.
