In a bid to promote the mass adoption of EVs, various government authorities are introducing various techniques, some of which may be controversial.
The Mahabaleshwar and Panchgani municipalities have proposed to ban the private cars (that use petrol or diesel) of tourists in popular tourist destinations. Only the cars running on electricity (EVs) are allowed in the area in order to prevent environmental degradation. Mahabaleshwar and Panchgani are extremely popular touristic destinations in Maharashtra and people visit these two places from across the nation. As a result, the pollution in the area has increased manifold which is bound to degrade the nature in the long run.

Mahabaleshwar MC To Ban Private Cars?
Citing the aforementioned reasons, the municipalities of Mahabaleshwar and Panchgani have written to the Maharashtra Tourist Department that only EVs should be allowed to visit all these places. In fact, the local taxi union is also involved in this process and the government is asked to provide subsidies to the local taxi drivers to convert their existing fuel-powered vehicles to EVs. In addition to that, the proposal also suggests the government could strike a deal with car manufacturers to deliver a fleet of commercial EVs to the local taxi union that could be used to commute in the area.

Such actions and initiatives are indicative of the direction the local authorities and the governments are working toward. The EV wave is upon us and such measures could, at least, lead to a widespread market share of EVs in the commercial space. To achieve that, EVs like the Tata Tigor EV come to mind, which is designed to keep the commercial industry in focus. It could prove to be a great product to start with. The tailpipe emissions from the EVs are zero which is what is required to restore nature in such places where the tourist influx is through the roof.

The centre and state governments are offering a ton of subsidies already to promote the mass adoption of EVs. The running costs of electric cars are quite low, especially when compared to the astronomical fuel prices that are prevalent these days. The chances of the prices falling are next to impossible and people are already beginning to look for alternatives. That is what has caused a massive increase in the sales of CNG vehicles over the last few years. With the prices of EVs coming down, people could go electric in times to come.
