Here is the list of all-electric vehicles that are slated for launch in South Africa in 2023. EVs are taking over the world with most major carmakers introducing some version of electric cars in their lineup. The South African market is all set to receive its dose of this EV phenomenon as 2023 promises to be a monumental year in this electric revolution in the automobile industry. BMW iX1

BMW will launch its popular iX1 electric compact SUV in the South African market in 2023. It comes powered by a 77 kWh battery that powers 2 electric motors for an AWD configuration. The total power output is 230 kW and the torque is 494 Nm. This enables a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of just 5.6 secs. The range is a decent 440 km on the WLTP test cycle. There is the option of 130 kW DC fast charging and the launch is expected in Q2 2023.

GWM Ora Cat

The next vehicle on the list of electric vehicles coming to South Africa in 2023 is the GWM Ora Cat. This is an electric compact SUV / crossover that will be a great option for the price-conscious SA market. It comes powered by a 48 kWh battery that powers the front wheels. It produces a peak power and torque output of 126 kW and 250 Nm. This allows a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 9.3 secs and offers a range of 501 km (WLTP). It supports a 100 kW DC fast charging and will be launched in Q3 2023.

Kia EV6 GT

Kia EV6 GT is the next electric car in the list of electric vehicles to be launched in South Africa in 2023. Note that this is the more powerful performance version of the regular Kia EV6. It comes powered by a 77 kWh battery pack that powers all four wheels. The peak power and torque outputs stand at a cool 430 kW and 740 Nm. Being the performance version, the acceleration from 0-100 km/h takes 3.4 secs. Interestingly, the range is a cool 529 km which is great. It supports 350 kW DC ultra-fast charging.

Mercedes-Benz EQE

Mercedes is among the most prominent luxury carmakers that have gone into an extensive launch mode with EVs. That is the reason why this year would see it enter the list of electric vehicles to be launched in South Africa. The EQE is an electric luxury SUV that commands a massive power and torque output of 505 kW and 1,000 Nm in its most sporty AMG 53 4MATIC+ guise. The acceleration time of 0-100 km/h for this version is 3.3 secs and the regular version offers a range of up to 639 km. This range drops down to 526 km in the AMG version. It can be charged via a 170 kW DC fast charger. Additionally, Mercedes will also launch the EQE sedan and EQS sedan.

Rolls Royce Spectre

The next EV in this list of electric vehicles to be launched in South Africa in 2023 is the Rolls Royce Spectre. This will be the first electric Rolls Royce. This special EV will boast a peak power and torque of 430 kW and 900 Nm enabling a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of just 4.5 secs. It will have an electric driving range of up to 520 km. There will be the option of a 200 kW DC fast charging and the expected launch is somewhere around the latter half of 2023.

Toyota bz4X

Toyota bz4X is the next electric SUV in the list of electric vehicles to be launched in South Africa this year. It has a power and torque output of a decent 150 kW and 265 Nm in FWD and 160 kW and 336 Nm in AWD configuration. In its most sporty settings, the 0-100 km/h acceleration can be achieved in just 7.7 secs and the EV supports DC fast charging of 150 kW. It will have a cool range of 516 km in the FWD version and 460 km in AWD. Toyota will most likely launch the bz4X in the latter half of 2023.

Volvo C40 Recharge

The next EV in this list of electric vehicles to be launched in South Africa in 2023 is the Volvo C40 Recharge. Volvo has been doing well with its C40 in various international markets. The C40 will have 300 kW and 660 Nm of peak power and torque. This allows a decent acceleration time for 0-100 km/h of just 4.7 secs. The range for the C40 is a hand 451 km and it supports 150 kW of DC fast charging. Interestingly, it is slated to launch in the first half of 2023.
